If someone could have shown me how well this product worked, before I bought it, I would have paid double. I have a large pole barn, and over a dozen carpenter bee holes on the east side of the barn, from the last few years of activity. This morning I used the included hand bellows and applied a full squeeze of Drione Dust into each of the holes. In approximately 5 minutes, bees began to emerge from the holes in a very lethargic way. I came back to the site about 20 minutes later to find that multiple bees were coming out of each hole. Most fell out of the hole and writhed on the ground until dying. Roughly a third came out of the holes and started to slowly climb up the side of the barn. A few were able to fly away, but most of these bees also fell to the ground eventually and died.

I revisited the site around lunch time, and no more bees were coming out. In fact, no more bees were flying around my barn any longer, either. All said, there were approximately 40-50 dead carpenter bees on the ground beneath their holes.

I can't guarantee how this product will work for other species of insects, but it certainly worked quite well for my wood boring bee problem. If you have carpenter bees, I would highly recommend this product.

A Tale of Two Exterminations

Last year we called an exterminator to get rid of ground wasps. The ten minute treatment/visit cost $120.00. The exterminator had a pump sprayer that held a white powdery substance. He squirted it into the wasp hole in the ground and he tagged some wasps that came after him. Whatever that stuff was, stopped the wasps dead in flight.

Fast forward to this year. We noticed wasps entering a gap behind the external water spigot. We bought both types of wasp spray that our home improvement store stocked: the five foot far reaching spray and the closeup foamy spray. We must have emptied four cans of foam spray into the gap over two evenings. The wasps were still hovering by the gap, in the morning. I also tried spraying in the daytime and as soon as I started, a bunch of wasps would come out of nowhere and immediately swarmed towards the source (me), as if ordered to attack the intruder.

I bought a multi-bug trap from the home improvement store to hang. That caught a handful of stray wasps. Still no joy.

The Right Stuff

Thanks to Amazon's other product "suggestions", there was a listing for "Delta Dust" which had glowing reviews of success against wasps. It does not ship to two states to two states: NY and CT. So close, yet so far for a solution: I'm in NY.

Another "suggestion" listed another, more expensive product, Drione Dust, that will ship to me! Most of the reviews mentioned eliminating bees and just a few about wasps (thank all of you wasp reviewers). I bought the jug that included a bellows duster. At dusk I anxiously loaded my duster half full and attacked the hole behind the spigot. I emptied a quarter bellow's worth into the hole, which was a lot of bellow pumping.

I live in an all cedar siding house in a river delta area in Maryland. I bought this house 8 years ago and there had been active carpenter/ wood bees in the cedar fascia boards and soffits for a long time. I tried sealing the holes with putty, various aerosol sprays, etc...and found the most effective remedy for us was a set of yard sale badminton racquets. Great sport, that, you can set up all sorts of scoring possibilities......

Anyway, Googled up this stuff and it is the bomb. It is a mechanical sort of insecticide, in that it immobilizes by dehydrating invertebrate critters (read bugs) that it comes into contact with. It is NOT a poisonous substance dangerous to non-insect animals of any sort (read people).

It is amazingly effective when applied directly into active carpenter/ wood bee holes, which, if you are reading this, you are probably familiar with. These guys drill perfectly round 8 to 9 mm holes in exposed wood and then turn ninety degrees to travel the length and breadth of trim, fence, soffit, fascia boards and reward you for your stewardship of them by buzzing you in the face when you dare intrude on their flight paths..... Great little critters. Actually they are known to be very effective pollinators of native plants, which makes their elimination from our homes a real value judgement, one which I have comfortably decided to be in line with nuking them. When they destroy my property.

Anyway.......buy this stuff. Fill the container halfway full in the included duster/ puffer device. Use it with the plug facing DOWN. Try not to puff off the plug, (it's pretty tightly fitted and stays on quite well) this is NOT explained in the accompanying instruction sheet. There are good youtube videos readily available to watch on this.

I shot a puff of Drione into the air at a wood-boring bee that was coming after me. It left me alone. I sent a puff into the bee holes in my porch posts and haven't seen any bees since. I also puffed around areas of the house where ants are. It's been successful so far. I sent puffs up the siding because an exterminator who came last year said the dust will go behind the siding where I've seen ants go. Seems to work. I need to figure out how to get the squeeze right with the bellow so more puffs of dust, rather than a stream of dust, comes out of the bellow. I'll definitely order more before I run out of this container.
