As good as it gets,

I know the band personally, especially Lewis Ross, and John Anthony. These guys and the rest of Wet Willie, Jimmy Hall Jack Hall and Ricky Hirsch, are as good as any musician who ever laid down a recorded track of music. I have the greatest respect for them as musicians and as people. Drippin' Wet is a masterpiece of solid rock and soul music unequaled anywhere. They have influenced many more musicians than they will ever know. Get this CD for your collection....you won't be sorry!! And on a personal note, 'thanks guys!'

A Hard Rockin' R&B Influenced Essential Live Album.,

What if The Stones had been from a place that was closer to Birmingham Alabama than Birmingham England? If that was the case they would probably sound like Wet Willie. Like The Stones, Wet Willie has a remarkable lead singer: Jimmy Hall. Jimmy Hall is about the most expressive and soulful white singer I have ever heard. Ricky Hirsch is a great rock/blues guitarist. He has the subtlety and rhythm comparable to B.B. King, but like Clapton can be heavy and loud in a very musical way when the moment is right. Combined with their crack bandmates who obviously have the same respect for the music, it's not a stretch to say Wet Willie was a Rockin' R&B Juggernaut of a band. In many ways Wet Willie was every bit as great as The Stones while staying truer to their R&B roots. "Drippin' Wet", now remastered and finally released on cd, may be the only evidence one needs to witness to arrive at this same conclusion. If you like emotionally driven good time rock and roll with a very funky R&B influence, then do not delay your satisfaction and order "Drippin' Wet" by Wet Willie immediately. It's one of the best albums period, live or otherwise. Miss this at your own loss.

I HAVE BEEN A WET WILLIE FAN SINCE THE 70'S. PROBABLY SEENTHEM PERFORM WHO KNOWS HOW MANY TIMES. TO THIS DAY I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE NOT MENTIONED IN THE SAME BREATH AS THE ALLMAN BROS, SKYNARD AND OTHERS. I DON'T KNOW OF ANY VOCALIST WHO CAN COME CLOSE TO THE ENERGY AND TALENT OF JIMMY HALL.THAT MAN CAN BRING ANY HOUSE DOWN. THANK GOODNESS CAPRICORN RECAPTURED THOSE GREAT MOMENTS ON CD.

I saw these guys when they were nobodies and then famous. always thought they were the best!!!drippin wet has got to be the best live album ever, recorded at the warehouse in new orleans 1973. what a trip that was..i sure will never forget them.

This is simply an exceptional live recording of one of the most underrated and most skilled bands around. If you ever get a chance to listen to Jimmy Hall live, don't miss it. If you want a facsimile of the live Jimmy Hall/Wet Willie experience, buy this CD.I heard this in college in 74, and this album was wonderful then. Times have changed, but the power and talent of this recording by Wet Willie hasn't. If you want to hear rock and roll as God intended it to be played, this is it.

"Drippin Wet" from the Wet Willie Band has finally been released on CD. This is one of the best live albums ever recorded, and it has been digitally remastered from the original tapes, and features the original artwork and packaging. Recorded at the Warehouse in New Orleans on December 31, 1972 (You can hear vocalist Jimmy Hall wish everyone "Happy New Year"), this recording captures Wet Willie at their best, delivering funky rockin' blues in front of a live audience. The sound of the CD is fantastic, though my only reference has been a 15 year old cassette made from a scratchy LP. Five Stars.....Essential Listening..... Personel: Jimmy Hall: Lead vocals, harmonica, sax, Ricky Hirsch: Lead guitar, John Anthony: Keyboards, Jack Hall: Bass, Lewis Ross: Drums.

What a great concert. I was very lucky to be in the Warehouse in New Orleans, on New Years Eve 1972. The show was Elvin Bishop, Wet Willie and the Allman Brothers. Wet Willie ruled the night. I have seen the Allman Brothers several times but that night belonged to Jimmy Hall and the boys from Mobile. So glad to see that night preserved on CD.

This cd is hotter than a nymphomanic in a convent. Taken from a New Years Eve show at one of the legendary dungeons in rock history the Warehouse in New Orleans. Opening for the Allman Brothers, Wet Willie simply tore the roof off the sucker.Opening with That's All Right, the band sets out a marker-We are going to kick your butt and if you don't like it leave. This is not rock and roll for posers or the faint of heart. They do the definitive version of Taj Mahal's She Caught the Katy, and their version of I'd Rather Be Blind Than to See You Go brings gospel fervor to the roadhouse. No Good Soman Blues is the hottest shuffle I've heard to this day. Of course a man's gotta have a little Red Hot Chicken, and when he's finishsed he will always Shout Bamalama. Musicianship-outstanding. Jack Hall and Lewis Anthony lay down a great groove, Ricky Hirsch plays some tasty guitar and John Anthony puts they keys in exactly the right place. Jimmy Hall-well what can you say-arguably the greatest white soul singer ever-only Eddie Hinton and Felix Cavilere are close The only thing missing from this disc is Grits Ain't Groceries which was a staple of the Wet Willie live show. Every time I listen to this disc I realize how lucky I was to hear this band at their peak-and guys this is it! You gotta have this one

This is one hot, live album. Ricky Hirsch plays some incredible blues and the band is one of the tightest I have ever heard. Lewis Ross demonstrates what real taste in rock drumming means. I waited for years for this album to be released on CD.

The REAL DEAL!,

White boys have been influenced by the black rhythm and blues for about as long as music has been recorded. Perhaps the commerciallity of that reached it's peak in England before the celebrated "British Invasion". Those english bands tried to combine that grit with rock and to a certain extent succeeded, yet never fully realized it fully. Enter Wet Willie, a Mobile, Alabama five piece band that seemed to have it right while propelling it to that next level the Brits couldn't seem to quite get. The fact this band ever got a recording contract at all pretty much hinged on how the Allman Brothers made the fledging Capricorn record label able to sign some great unknown talent of which Wet Willie was at the top of that short list. Capricorn had the right connections to both Muscle Shoals and Memphis and Wet Willie fit.Drippin' Wet is almost an anomaly in that it is one of the greatest R&B live albums of all-time, yet will likely remain a minor footnote. If you sense I feel it is almost as important as Allman Brothers Live At Fillmore East you are correct. It's different and cannot be directly compared yet, to this reviewer, is every bit as wonderful. It is ashame that it isn't elevated to that status, but that does little to diminish it's viseral raw intensity and good time power. Wet Willie had the key elements to make "white boy" blues rock in that they had the perfect front man in Jimmy Hall. He could absolutely sound like a possessed Otis Redding eschewing a small, I'm mean small, bit of the blackness for a large dose of incendiary rock and roll. He had his foils in Ricky Hirsch's great guitar work which has that rhythm tastiness I love so much in Keith Richard yet could rip searing leads like an Eric Clapton. Underpining it was a great rhythm section and truly stand out piano player named John Anthony. Those are the elements that made Little Richard so amazing with Bumps Blackwell and that crew and it's the same here. Recorded in New Orleans on New Year's Eve I'm sure it's not a stretch to say the crowd, and perhaps the band, was wound as tight as a rubber band, but that's the chemistry which serves to propell this magic night's performance to a level rarely captured in any performer's recorded output. The fact that it was documented so rawly and in good sound is a minor miracle inded and therefore should not be missed. Please don't miss this if you have any passing interest in this kind of music. It's one of a long list of monumental wrongs in the music industry that this band had so little commercial success, but that you can still enjoy something so "out of this world" right serves to correct that just a little. Go get this and you will be acolyted too! |
