Dristan nasal spray really does do the trick of relieving nasal congestion. If you're having difficulty clearing your nose because of allergies, hay fever or a bad cold, this product will clear your nose in no time.
Dristan is best used as a spray. Spray twice in each nostril for the maximum effect. It does not make you drowsy.
However, there is a serious problem with the main ingredient of this drug, oxymetazoline hydrochloride--it can easily become an addictive substance. If you use Dristan more than three days at a time, your nasal passages almost inevitably become more and more clogged simply because they haven't received enough of the oxymetazoline hydrochloride in the Dristan to keep them clear. People can--and I did--wind up with a nasty habit of buying the product just to keep your nose clear. I have heard stories from doctors stating that they have been approached by patients claiming to have been addicted to Dristan--for as long as ten years at a time!!! You may then need a prescription nasal spray from your doctor to get your nose functioning properly again.
Naturally, I cannot give this product a positive review. I vividly remember seeing doctors cringe noticeably when I told them about the problem I had after using Dristan for just too long. Fortunately, the problem has been fixed; I got a prescription nasal spray which helped my nose to function much, much better again.
2 stars for this product--but ONLY if you use Dristan for no more than two days.
If at all possible, I would strongly encourage you to seek another nasal spray.

Best nasal spray without the rebound effect, August 31, 2011
This review is from: Dristan Nasal Decongestant, 12-Hr Nasal Spray, .5 oz. (Health and Beauty)
if you are hooked on Afrin or find the other nasal sprays don't work - try Dristan. It works almost as well as Afrin, but without the diminishing returns. I am in Allergy hell, so I take Zyrtec, 10 echinacea capsules a day and a few spritzes of Dristan to keep my chronic sinusitis at bay.

Dristan nasal spray relieves nasal congestion. If you're having difficulty clearing your nose because of allergies, hay fever or a bad cold, this product will help clear your nose.
Dristan is best used as a spray. Spray twice in each nostril for the maximum effect. It does not make you drowsy.
Unfortunately, whenever I have tried this nasal spray it really stings! I joked with a friend that when I use this I know to expect "that Dristan singe." Ouch! Dristan also uses oxymetazoline, just like Afrin, and this can be physiologically addictive over time. Bad news!
Moreover, there is a plethora of precautions about this drug. As Amazon notes, "Do not use this product if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, or difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostate gland unless directed by a doctor. This product may cause temporary discomfort such as burning, stinging, sneezing or an increase in nasal discharge. The use of this container by more than one person may spread infection. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, seek professional assistance or contact a poison control center immediately." Pregnant and nursing moms should also ask a doctor before using Dristan.
Naturally, with the precautions Dristan tells everyone about--and the horror stories of addiction that they don't openly address--I cannot give this product a positive review.
2 and ½ stars for this product--but only if you use Dristan for no more than two days.
I would strongly encourage you to seek another nasal spray.
