This magnetic seam guide grips extremely well and fit my need perfectly. However I very recently purchased another sewing machine, one that's computerized. One should not use anything magnetic in proximity to computerized machines. If I sell the older machine someone else will reap the benefits of this guide.

Update July 2011: My new machine is the Brother CS6000i which has computerized stitch selection. It has a seam guide stamped into the throat plate but nothing that sticks up against which to guide the material. Without something like that I find it very difficult to maintain a straight seam. The following is a direct quote from the Brother-usa.com support page FAQ regarding my machine:

You can use a magnet in the sewing area only.

A magnetic should never be placed near the main board or the LCD screen.

A strong magnet should never be used.

I'm assuming that the Dritz magnetic seam guide will not be too strong; and now I have to buy another one. I hope this is helpful info.

UPDATE 5/20/14: Since my original review the idea of seam guides has apparently come to the attention of sewing machine accessory manufacturers because there are a lot more of them to be found now. I was checking out on YouTube how to use some of the newer ones and came across a video titled "Using a Plastic Ruler as Seam Guide." Wow! Why didn't I think of that? This guy simply taped a clear ruler at the appropriate place on his machine. If you're interested you might like to see this video yourself at[...]

I'm just barely learning to sew and before I bought this guide I wasn't able to sew a straight line even if my Life depended on it. I placed this guide in and immediately was amazed how strong the magnet was that this guide didn't budge unless by strong force. I agree with the previous reviewers warning ... it does state of the package ... well, at least on mine it did that it is not meant for computerized machines and magnetic things should never be placed near computerized things. Luckily my sewing machine isn't computerized *Too Fancy smancy for me*. Anywhoo I definitely would recommend this not only for beginners just learning to use a sewing machine but for ANY skilled seamstress. If you use sewing machines this is a MUST-HAVE in your Sewing kit. I'm gonna recommend it to ALL my friends who use sewing machines.

I love this little gadget. I never knew how essential it was until I got it. It magnetically attaches to the plate on your machine. Just line it up with the desired seam width. Enables perfectly straight seams every time! It has a nice strong magnet so it does not move yet is still easy enough to take off when you want to. Would recommend to anyone.

I've been looking all over for a seam guide since my Husky doesn't have the attachment. Bought this one and couldn't use it at all. The majority of the presser feet are metal. The magnet slid instantly to the foot no matter how I placed it. Even tried breaking the magnet and using smaller pieces. Still didn't work. Nice little gadget if you can use it.

This little tool is great, especially since I am a beginner in sewing. I will use this even once I get better at my stitches.

The magnet is not very strong on this, so if you have stiff fabric or rely on butting up against it too much, be aware that it will slip. This does provide a much better visual guide than just a piece of tape, and for thinner cloth it does its job with aplomb. I would have preferred a stronger magnet, but I can see a few reasons why that would possibly be a bad idea.

This really works! The strong magnet keeps it in place, you have to deliberately move it - you can't accidentally knock if out of place. I use it for lightweight fabric as well as canvas and denim for tote bags. I use it on a lower-end Simplicity machine. Excellent product.
