I have always had trouble threading the needle of any sewing machine. I only recently learned of these little contraptions, and purchased this one because of the reviewers stating, "it worked every time."

Threading that tiny eye only takes mere seconds now. As others have noted, the instructions are sketchy. Try it a few times and you'll have it down and rarely, if ever again, have frustration with this necessary task. Once I was successful, I kept practicing for a while, just because it was rather fun.

My only complaint is there are no protective caps on the "working end." I would have appreciated clear caps, like the seam rippers have, since an unknowing child or adult might break this in their personal quest to play with your stuff.

For those, like myself, who want detailed instructions, here are mine. It is much easier to do, then to read about; but I also attached some photos:

Sit at your machine and have some decent lighting on the needle area.

1)At the busy end (the instructions call it the "Y" section, but it is really more of a cross of slots), hold the implement so either arrow (the arrows are the same color as the handle and hard to see, I'll probably dot mine with red with nail polish) are vertically aligned (up and down).

2)Then slide a section of your thread into a somewhat deep horizontal slot, push it back into the device and having it taunt can be helpful).

3)Now, place the busy end (with the slotted thread) onto the face of the sewing machine needle, slowly sliding downward WHILE slightly pushing it into the needle shaft.

When the eye of the needle is engaged, gently push.

I've been sewing for over 40 years and never tried a hand-held needle threader. I bought it to use on my serger. The Dritz needle threader works GREAT! Very simple to use, and works like a charm!!!

To address some of the negative reviews - yes, this is a very light plastic item, but it is very sturdy and quite capable of threading hundreds of needles. I don't see how it could break under normal use. The metal rod that actually goes through the eye of the needle is sturdy, and pushes the thread through with no problem.

The directions aren't great, but if you look at the metal prong, you can see that it is flat and thin. Obviously, you align it vertically so that it will fit through the needle's eye. There is an arrow on top side of threader.

Put the thread horizontally across the front of the threader, place the threader against the sewing machine needle, slide it down until the metal prong pushes the thread through the needle's eye. Very simple

It even has a hook on the threader to pull the loop of thread through the needle.

It is thin enough to fit on each needle of a serger, it pushes the thread through cleanly, it's small and stores easily. I just wish I had gotten it years ago!!!

Really! I have several sewing machines and eyesight that isn't that acute.
These threaders really work. My big machine has auto-threading that works about 50% of the time so I save myself a lot of frustration by having one of these threaders nearby. I now keep one of these at each machine - at last a machine threader that works EVERY TIME!
Also, sergers can be awkward to thread as well; and inserting their needles can be somewhat tricky, but this gadget does both tasks equally well.

Although some sewing machines come with an automatic needle threading lever, I've yet to run into a serger that has such luxury. This worked fabulous putting in new serger machine needles as well as threading them. It was a lot less of a hassle and took less time. You can find these at other sewing/craft stores and with a coupon or store sale for less than featured currently here.

Great product. Works just like it says. Helps me thread my sewing machine, since its hard for me to see, and even harder to use the machine threader. Love it, love it..............

This is so simple but it really works. I was skeptical when I first saw it but had an opportunity to try it out. I cannot see the eye on my sewing machine needle and have a heck of a time trying to thread it. This works so slick so maybe I'll use my machine more.
