5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good tag/loop/logo/stitch/sleeve removal tool, September 16, 2009
This review is from: Dritz(R) Deluxe Seam Ripper
I use mine to remove all sorts of annoying loops and velcro sorts of attachments that I do not need from gloves and bags and other gear. Works good on tags and advertising logos on clothing and other fabric products as well as just ripping them seams to cleanly remove a jacket/shirt lining or a sleeve or something of that nature.

Let me put it this way: If I buy a shirt and it has your logo on it, even a little tag on the corner of the pocket and you do not pay me to advertise your product, the logo comes off. And this is the little tool I use to do that.

Sturdy and does exactly what you want it to do. Excellent product. I've even used as a non-sewing to remove my hair from a roomba filter - multi-tasking little buggar :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it needs to do, February 20, 2012

This little baby pulls off seams like a hot knife slicing butter. I took the giant 'N' off of some New Balances, I removed a pesky velcro strap from a Timbuk2 bag, and I even took off a flashy designer label from a button-up shirt I purchased recently from a thrift store. If you're looking at this review, you probably need this thing, and at four bucks, just buy the damn thing.

I use this to cut long hairs from my vacuum cleaner's brush roll. It works pretty good. Much better than scissors or a razor blade.

5.0 out of 5 stars Multipurpose must-have tool!, August 27, 2011
This review is from: Dritz(R) Deluxe Seam Ripper
The seam ripper may be one of the most underrated tools ever. Stubborn tags, plastic ties, plastic casing (you know the kind I mean, the stuff you need heavy duty scissors to cut through), envelopes, hair ties, as well as a multitude of other items that need cutting. This is my go-to tool. Sure, you could use a pocket knife or scissors for all of the above, but a seam ripper gets the job done faster with half the hassle. The curved blade is the secret. There's no need to hold whatever you are cutting taught so that you can cut into it--as long as you can get it to touch the blade, you can cut it. I have one on me at all times. It's so handy to have, and I find myself cutting things that I never would have thought to use it on. For instance, cardboard boxes that are taped shut, or the plastic packets that Ramen seasoning comes in. I've even found myself unclogging soap dispensers with it. As far as seam rippers go, this is the best one that I've used. For five bucks, you can't really go wrong.

I wish that my pocketknife had this as an attachment :(

5.0 out of 5 stars De-mat your cat!, November 11, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dritz(R) Deluxe Seam Ripper
My husband and I buy Dritz Deluxe Seam Rippers a dozen at a time. I actually do use them for ripping out seams, but their main purpose in our household, is to remove hair clumps from our long-haired Maine Coon cats.

We've tried other brands, including the longer 'red' seam ripper and were amazed at the difference between the products. The 'red' model was too dull right out of the wrapper to cut cat hair!

The normal clump-removal tools that can be found in pet catalogues are too big and clumsy to use on a cat, especially for the matted hair that accumulates between the upper leg and the body (armpit? Do cats have armpits?). This seam ripper works perfectly to separate the mat from the skin.

There are two things you need to be careful of when using this product to de-mat your cat:

(1) Don't poke kitty with the sharp end of the tool. You have one seam ripper, but your cat has eighteen!

(2) Don't pull on the hair clump while you are cutting it away from the skin. If you tug at the mat, you might accidentally pull kitty's hide up into the razor-sharp crescent blade, and cut it.

We originally learned about this novel use for a seam ripper from a man who shows Maine Coons, and have been using it successfully for many years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent item for Pekingese and Persian grooming, June 28, 2007

This is an outstanding item for grooming pets. We have 2 Pekingese dogs and 3 Persian cats and they all tend to get fur knots from time to time...no matter how well we brush them. The seam ripper is the best tool to deal with this occurrence. As noted in the other review, you have to be careful when using it on your pets but the seam ripper is painless and efficient (if it is sharp).

My wife has always bought these at local hobby stores but they almost never have very many in stock or the right brand. The Dritz Deluxe Seam Ripper is perfect and we were able to order a good supply to last us quite a few months. Also, whenever my wife would go to Hobby Lobby or some other store to try to find these seam rippers, she would invariably end up buying some other item (that she thought she absolutely needed and I thought was totally useless)...now we do not have to worry about this because we have enough seam rippers to last a while.

I do wish that free shipping were an option from this online store given how many seam rippers we bought...still when we calculated the cost to buy the seam rippers locally at a store vs. what we paid from Amazon, shipping, and sales tax, we still came out a little better by purchasing these online.

Very happy with this product and I am certain we will buy more in the future.
