I cannot recommend this CD.
If you are looking for the clear voiced chanteuse from Dave's True Story, look elsewhere. Here, Kelly Flint sounds like a bad Stevie Nicks impersonator growling her way through one mediocre song after another.

Sorry, Kelly, but I know you are better than this.

A little advice:

Be Yourself...

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring lyrics......, August 30, 2007
This review is from: Drive All Night (Audio CD)
A true blend of folk and Americana describes Kelly Flint's Drive All Night. At times her voice is somber and other times it's avid with the fervor of emotions she wishes to let loose and share with her listeners.
"Blood and Bone" is Flint musing about how those closest to her, friends and family, are the most important and influential people in a person's life. In Flint's case, she intimates that they saved her, with lyrics like, "She always used to listen to that song...If you ask me, if you ask me again, if you ask me I was saved by my friends and my babies this is all blood and bone." The message is further conveyed through the rhythmic tidings of acoustic guitar, drums and percussion.
The title track paints a picture of a group on a road trip with destination unknown, with lyrics such as, "Darkness falls around the car, like a moth. We are drivin' just to be drivin', the heater's blabbering and the radio's on low."
On "Story In Your Eyes," a meditative feeling might sweep over listeners as the beat mimics the sound of water dripping. The measured guitar and percussion seal the deal, with lyrics like, "I've been thinkin' about a fortune. I've decided we're not to blame for the love that's deep inside us now is still the same, and the sounds we make together is the music to the story in your eyes, its been shinin' down upon me now I realize." It seems Flint is re-examining certain choices she has made and re-assessing her feelings about them.
Kelly Flint's Drive All Night is an album that lets listeners into the most intimate thoughts of the artist. Flint's hopes and fears are all laid out in song and she does it so well that listeners will be compelled to follow along.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply beautiful, musically and sonically, May 15, 2008

This review is from: Drive All Night (Audio CD)
This is just a marvelous cd. The music is great, its a little dark but not depressing, and the sonics are spectacular. Shes from "Daves True Story" and they record on the Chesky label, if you know audiophilia you know who Chesky is. Her recording on this cd is just as good as the Chesky recordings with DTS. Buy this, its well worth the money. I'll buy it on vinyl if it ever gets released as an LP.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flint Scores High, July 26, 2007
This review is from: Drive All Night (Audio CD)
Flint's first solo album is a surprise to those expecting to hear the same Kelly Flint featured in Dave's True Story--A pleasant surprise that is! Kelly's almost country like approach works prefectly with her great voice. I can't wait to hear her next CD.

I have enjoyed all of the CD's from Dave's True Stories. I like this one too. Not as sassy, smart, or sophisticated as the work from DTS, but still very enjoyable..."Cartoon" in heavy rotation. Analogous to "Girl in the other Room" and Dianna Krall's other work. If you like the voice, you'll appreciate something new.

I am jealous of all of you who have yet to discover Kelly Flint.
You will be amazed at her rich mellow delivery, her poetry, her can't-keep-still beat.
You will be moved, in more ways than one. Buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kelly! Kelly! Kelly!, March 7, 2007
This review is from: Drive All Night (Audio CD)
What do you do when you are blessed with an angelic voice, a beautiful smile and know how to write a tune as well? If you're Kelly Flint, the voice of "Dave's True Story", you release a solo album. Combining an interesting mix of mostly folk-inspired originals, this album highlights yet another side of Kelly's talents. And this listener thinks that this is only the tip of the iceberg! Short and Sweet = Highly Recommended. BUY IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solo Kelly is a lovely change from DTS, March 2, 2007
By
This review is from: Drive All Night (Audio CD)
Dave's True Story vocalist Kelly Flint makes Dave Cantor's clever New York jazz one of music's great joys, so it was with great anticipation that I waited for Kelly's first solo release. The CD is clearly Kelly - and while it's the same Kelly, she's, well... different. The CD is not what I expected. But it's wonderful. Kelly isn't a cyncial NY'er here, rather, she's from America's heartland. She's no longer jazz, now she's folk. But, she's still beautiful to listen to. DTS is rich cabernet. Kelly is champagne. Buy this, light a fire, pour a glass and enjoy.
