The lone picture does not make justice to show how well made it is. I liked the overall feel and exact dimensions of this caddy.
It does not deserve 5 stars for these reasons:
- did not come with instructions. People like me who are used to tear computers apart have no problem, but the average user will have a hard time figuring out how to assemble the hard drive and secure the several screws.
- unfortunately the front bezel is not as firm as it could be. Could be secured with screws but uses only small latches. A small pull and it goes off.

Note that any caddy like this will not have a LED that shows the drive's activity. The laptop's LED shows only the activity of the hard drive in the IDE port, and not the drive in this caddy.

But the benefits are great: SATA drives are now cheaper than IDE. This caddy accepts 1Tb drives (I bought a Seagate 1TB SSHD).
I used the free software [...] (part_tition_wizard_dot_com) ISO image to clone the original HD.
For this price, it's very affordable and it will give you the chance to use the latest SSD or hard drive technology in your old computer, but you must understand that an old computer like the D600 is unable to get the full speed benefits that the latest hard drives or SSDs are capable of.

I give it solid 4 stars. 1st, it allows you to use the opticalbay for a 2nd HDD, 2nd you can choose to use a SSD, 3rd you can modify your Bios to use a second operating system! and finally you can realize a very versital old yet new laptop for decabucks, not kilodollars. The guys at BrainyDeal made a keeper.

Usage - I swapped a 30GB SSD (that I paid practically nothing for) into the main HDD space in an old D820, along with a memory upgrade. Since that's hardly any space, I picked this up to allow me to expand without having to carry around an additional external drive; I put a 500GB 2.5 drive and it's been working great for the past 2-3 months. I should note that this D820 is no longerput through the rigors of heavy travel.

Quality - Frankly, my first impression of the caddy was that it was a piece of junk. It feels cheap and loosely constructed, certainly not durable. Metal parts from the original have been duplicated with plastic; understandable but it doesn't help the overall impression. My biggest problem with the construction is actually the screws\fasteners that keep it together. On opening the box, I found that there was one that had come out of the caddy, or accidentally been packaged with it - I could not find where it was supposed to go, despite there being several places that seemed like they needed screws. Some of the screws fit so loosely or the pre-drilled holes were so big\stripped that they did not actually hold it together.

Value - For 15.00, it's hard to complain too much about the quality, especially when there are so few options out there for a laptop so old and rapidly becoming too obsolete to use. Compared to the actual parts, by Dell, when the laptop was current, it's an even better price.

Summary - I was able to vastly improve performance and the life of a laptop that was on the verge of being pitched to the trash. I only expect another year or so max, before it becomes pointless to keep around, but for less than $20, this was a great way to put off spending significantly more to buy a new machine completely.
