Killer gift,

This review is from: DriveMaster 14.4V Cordless Drill (Tools & Home Improvement)
This 14.4 volt drill for $10 is an incredible deal. I needed a drill for around my house, nothing crazy, and I was suprised when I got it. Looks pretty cool, has a lot of power, feels great in my hand and is lighter then the ones I checked out at Home Depot(also a lot less expensive). As for the forward/reverse switch, mine works great. I have used this drill to drive screws and to drill holes into wood and metal in my shop. The clutch feature is really cool and lets you drive screws like you are a professional. This drill is not variable speed but with the clutch and a little pumping of the trigger it performs as good as any other drill I have owned and only costs $10. In fact, it has a ton of torque for any drill under $50. I just ordered 2 more to give as Xmas presents. Only came with two bits so I had to buy a set of extra bits to go with it or else I would have given it a 5. Good drill for me at a great price.

What do you expect for $10??,

Just received this drill. For $10 it's an incredible value. It is a single speed drill which means that when you pull the trigger it immediately goes to its 1 speed but this does not impact the use of the drill that much. If you want to drill or drive screws at a slower speed you just need to pump the trigger. For drilling, single speed is fine for most applications. For driving screws, you just use the torque adjustment which allows you to sink the screw to any depth you want. Its a well built drill for $10. Heck, lunch now-a-days cost you more then $10.

Not variable speed, so not ideal for household use,

This drill is NOT variable speed, meaning once you hit the trigger, it spins at full speed with no modulation. Now before you immediately rate this review as "Not Helpful", please read on...The lack of variable speed makes it nearly impossible to drive screws carefully, as you can't control the spin. With any decent variable-speed drill, you can gently press on the trigger to get it to spin smoothly and slowly without risk of stripping threads. Here's an analogy: When you are driving and take off from a stop sign, you don't immediately floor it. Instead, you gradually apply the throttle and then increase it smoothly. The same concept applies to using a drill properly. Aside from not being able to screw stuff in easily, you also don't necessarily want to drill holes at full speed all the time too. If you watch professional contractors work, they always modulate the speed when first starting to help ensure a straight hole. I honestly tried this drill at home, and decided to return it right away. It was not worth $10 as it is essentially useless for me. I tried very carefully to drive a screw in, but the drill immediately goes to full speed, turning the screw about 5 or 6 revolutions, when I only needed it to turn a couple of times. It's too easy to strip threads/screws this way. You can find decent variable-speed Black & Decker drills for $15-20 on sale. Other reviews argue about "what can you expect for $10", but I just want to strongly urge potential buyers to consider spending an extra $5-10 for a variable speed drill. I honestly find that this drill is not worth a single dollar as it makes it very difficult to get the job done "right".

I thought "Torque Control" = Variable Speed,

I should have read the review a bit better. This drill is not variable speed. No big deal I guess. I'm keeping it for $15 bucks. Keep an eye on it. It seems to go from $15 to $20 pretty regularly.

I used the drill to insall a 6' vertical blind valance with ease.It works specially well when the screws into the dry-wall are not over-torqued: the drill skids at the second setting which is just right for me. Compared to any corded drill, it is much more convenient and light. I got one for my friend and would get more just for the battery to spare. What can you ask for a nice toy at $10.

Super Gift for Under $10,

I bought 3 of these as gifts. Wish I would have bought one for myself. These are very nice tools for the money, and certainly do not reflect a $10 price tag. Great gift idea for friends who "have everything" and are hard to buy for. Everyone can use an extra cordless drill/screwdriver! No-frills packaging, but, ummmm, who really cares. Biggest "con"? Not American made.

Good solid drill for the weekend warrior,

I was a little hesitant when I read a couple of the reviews and considering the price I thought I was getting this wimpy, little drill that wouldn't be able to hold up. I was very pleasantly surprised when it arrived. This drill is bigger, more solid and more powerful than my old drill (Black and Decker 12V) and I was perfectly happy with that one. The one thing that it doesn't have is the variable speed benefit...it just kicks right it - but good power. I noticed this being a bit of an issue when removing screws, no finesse, so you have to kind of tap the power button to initially turn the screw otherwise you can strip the head...but no big deal if you put some decent pressure on the screw while turning. The direction button (forward/reverse) is right by the power button for convenient use but it is plastic and seems a bit cheap but $10 for this drill is a very good buy in my opinion...and am confident this drill will last.

Dont let the low price fool you. This is a great deal. It is sturdy, well made and powerful. The rechargable battery it comes with is top notch. I really like it.

purchasing a drill below $10, I just expect it in quality as something in the dollar store. But this is not the kind. First it is made in good material, and it does not present as something cheap in apperance, and feel good. second it has power as it is advertised, 14.4v, drilling wood with ease. Third, it can be used as screwdriver. I think the manufature also suppose it with screwdriver function, as it is coming with two screwdriver kit in the package. Just done some ikea works, it is great.Though it does not have speed adjust, I can live with it as something $10. Very satisfied with both drill and its price. I purchased the second one for backup, as I found that battery alone will cost me more than $10. if you just do some simple works, I think this is a great tool.

I was making my own platform bed and this dril performed pretty well. It is a powerfull drill and the variable torque can be handy for screwing. You should not miss out on this deal as long as it is $10.
