5.0 out of 5 stars Crazy Soundtrack, January 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (1999 Film) (Audio CD)
I have not yet seen the film, as it has not been released as yet in Australia, which put me off purchasing this soundtrack, but after hearing smaples and seeing the A-list performers, I made the right choise by buying the soundtrack. With the soundtrack being headed with pop sensations Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Steps and The Tamperer featuring Maya, customers were probably expecting poppy sounds the whole way through but theres something for everybody in this soundtrack. Britney Spears heads the soundtrack with a remix of the title track (You Drive Me) Crazy, Backstreet Boys' Iwant It That Way is given new life with a mix as is Steps' track One For Sorrow. Barenaked Ladies, Matthew Sweet and Phantom Planet are mainly the rock/alternative strand on the CD and dance DJ The Tamperer does a good job with his dance tune Hammer To The Heart with the vocals supplied by Maya. Newcomer Don Phillip has a highlight with the track Sugar which features a sample of the Jackson 5 track ABC. Overall this was a great Cd and the movie should be just as satisfying.

3.0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag, November 25, 1999

Like most soundtrack albums, "Drive Me Crazy" is a mixed bag consisting of some catchy little numbers and several filler cuts.

Among the gems are Don Philip's "Sugar", a light and breezy ditty which samples the Jackson 5's "ABC", along with notably tracks from Plumb, Jars of Clay and Phantom Planet. Also included are the expected contributions from teeny-boppers Britney Spears, who contibutes a very nicely remixed version of the album's title track, as well as cuts from the Backstreet Boys and Steps.

For those with edgier tastes, there are songs from Less Than Jake (ska), The Donnas (punk) and the Barenaked Ladies and Matthew Sweet (alt.rock).

Overall, this is a decent collection with a diverse roster that provides a little something for almost everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Your Average Soundtrack . . ., May 17, 2001
This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (1999 Film) (Audio CD)
Don't let Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears fool you: this is not a jumble of meaningless sugar pop songs. Sure, some of the songs are so poppy that it could give you cavaties, but there are some really good songs here. First off, Britney Spears's song Crazy is the radio version (Not the album version) with the really cool "Stop!" part. It is a killer remix that was super popular. The Backstreet Boys's hit song I Want It That Way was spiced up a bit for a fast paced version that is as good as the original. However, there are some adult contemporary and alternative rock songs on here. The Barenaked Ladies, Donnas, Matthew Sweet and Phantom Planet provide some really good tracks to this compilation. Don Phillip's song Sugar is superb. The Jars Of Clay song is pretty good too. I love this CD. I use it a ton in my dance classes, and I still haven't gotten tired of it. If you like lots of musical styles, then get this as soon as possible. It's worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's pretty good., October 3, 2000
This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (1999 Film) (Audio CD)
"Drive me crazy" was one of best romantic teen comedy's I've seen in along time,so when the soundtrack came out ,I was kinda compelled to buy it.Just let me tell you right now ,this is one the best soundtracks ever, there is not a song on this cd that I can't tolerate.

My favorite song is by The Donnas, entitled "Keep on loving you" (even though I think REO Speedwagon did a much superior job). Then my second favorite song is by Jars of clay entitled "Unforgettful you".

I know I said I liked all of the songs but there is one song that I can't stand. It's by The Backstreet boys,"I want it that way".The original version I can tolerate, but Jack D. Elliot has murdered the song with his crappy remix.

But, besides that one flaw ,this is a really good soundtrack that deserves to be put in everyones cd collection.Enjoy the soundtrack.

When I first bought this CD, I thought I wouldn't like the unpopular songs. I was definitely wrong. My favorite songs are Crazy, Unforgetful You, Stranded, Sugar, Regret, and Original. This CD rocks!

4.0 out of 5 stars A strong collection of today's music, January 3, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (1999 Film) (Audio CD)
I loved the movie "Drive me Crazy." Having grown up during that era of high school romance movies like "Pretty in Pink" "Say Anything" and "The Breakfast Club," I didn't expect "Drive me Crazy" to compare. However, the movie was great and, like it, the musical collection outdoes itself. Especially songs like "Stranded" and the Donnas' remix of "Keep on Loving You" really pull you back into the movie. These songs are poppy, high school style tunes that give me some faith in the future of music.

4.0 out of 5 stars something for everyone, September 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (1999 Film) (Audio CD)
the movie was cool, but the cd kicks! no matter what kind of music you're into, pop, punk, rock, or christian, you'll find it on this cd. the cd has many of the teeny-boppers favorites like britney spears, the backstreet boys and the steps, but this cd also brings together some great christian artists, like the jars of clay's new single "unforgetful you" and plumb's "stranded". and if you're still not satisfied, you'll be happy to know that the cd also includes punk rockers less than jake and the chic band the donnas (who play the "electrocutes" in the movie). this cd does an excellent job of bringing together hit favorites as well as unheard-of-yet-cool artists. who knows, you might ditch britney's bubble gum pop for the donnas grunge rock.
