This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (Paperback)
Nancy Warren has become one of my favourite authors in this past year and I think that this is her best book yet! Duncan Forbes is sexy, supremely self-confident, smart and handsome. Alex Forrest is independent, smart, extremely comfortable with her sexuality and beautiful. He?s a break-the-rules-when-it-suits-him kind of guy and she?s a gal who needs order and structure in her life. Alex is the librarian in sleepy Swiftcurrent, Oregon and one day looks down from replacing a book on an upper shelf to find a very sexy man looking up her skirt! He claims to be an Art History professor researching a book but Alex isn?t so sure she believes him. His sleepy sexuality, cocky grin and rumpled appearance do not exactly scream ?academic?. Why would he be doing research in her tiny library in this small town when a big city or university library would better suit his needs? When she discovers a dead body in her library the next morning she is more suspicious than ever. What is Duncan Forbes really doing in town and, more important, why is she attracted to him?

Duncan is what he claims, but he?s also known as ?the Indiana Jones of the art world? for his efforts in tracking down stolen works of art. He has come to Swiftcurrent because of a lead on a Van Gogh painting secreted out of France before the Nazi invasion. His information is that a Franklin Forrest was the last person to possess the painting and, though unfortunately the old man has recently died, it looks like Duncan has just stumbled onto his granddaughter. So he doesn?t reveal his true reason for being in town and sticks to Alex like glue for three reasons: 1) she may know where the painting is 2) she may be in danger given the dead body found in her library and 3) she?s drop dead gorgeous, fun to be with and incredibly sexy! Alex tries to resist him, heck she doesn?t really even trust him, but he?s the hottest and most fun guy she?s met in a long time and so she succumbs to his considerable charms.

Police Chief Tom Perkins is also suspicious of Duncan, who arrived in town at almost the same time as a man was murdered. But he?s thorough and looks into all possible leads and that includes Alex?s unstable cousin Gillian. Tom has had a thing for Gillian since high school, but she left town years ago then returned with a husband Tom never did like and a drug problem. Could the dead guy be some sort of drug contact of Gillian?s? He doesn?t really believe that and Gillian adamantly professes her innocence. Gillian is going through a tough time as she has just divorced her husband and is trying to stand on her own for the first time in her life. Everyone in town (including Alex) thinks she?s a drugged out screw-up and her slightly neurotic behaviour only fuels the gossip. Has Gill finally lost it? Tom refuses to believe it and comes to her rescue at her lowest moment. Then things begin to get more dangerous when both Duncan and Alex each have life-threatening experiences. Who is behind them and why? And whatever did happen to that painting?

This was a really enjoyable book with a fast pace and lots of chemistry between both Alex & Duncan and Tom & Gillian. The mystery of the painting was not deep and the villain of the piece was fairly obvious, but it was fun to play detective along with Duncan and, when he admits the truth to her, Alex. Tom and Gillian?s romance was very sweet and satisfying as Gillian pulls her life together and gets to experience a pure love for the first time in her life. And Duncan's larcenous family background was also good for a few giggles! A very highly recommended read!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read!!!, March 31, 2004
This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (Paperback)
I really had fun reading this story. The character's and plot were unique and this was a decent way to pass the time while I was traveling.

Duncan is looking for a missing Van Gogh and his quest has brought him to Swiftcurrent Oregon which seems like a sleepy small town but is really anything but. His first clue is the librarian Alexander Forrest. She is hot with a capital H! Ducan and Alex's first meeting is not the coolest meeting and sparks fly between these two very different individuals.

Alex likes order, peace, books, and dressing sexy. What she doesn't like (at least to this point) are smarmy "Indiana Jones Wannabe's" taking peeks up her skirt while "looking" for research material. She totally does not believe that Duncan is a College professor let alone a art buff! Ya right!!!

What brings these two together you ask? Why a dead body in the in the home decorating section of the library of course! Now there is a murder to solve, a painting to find, and Alex doesn't realize it but she may just have all of the clues. And then of course there is the raging hot chemistry that both Duncan and Alex need to either admit to or....burn up trying to get it out of their system!

This was a fun full-length romance that was a nice read. The character's were quirky, and the storyline was fun. I at times found myself skimming pages because there were a few slow spots but overall I think this book was good. Ms. Warren is well on her way to be great author!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book has it all, January 28, 2004

This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (Paperback)
Drive Me Crazy is a delightful, sexy, emotional and intriguing good time.

Professor Duncan Forbes is in sleepy little Swiftcurrent, Oregon in search of a missing Van Gogh. While doing research at the local library he sees the sexiest woman on the planet. Much to his shock Miss Alex Forrest is the librarian. Wowza, Alex complexly blows away Duncan?s image of a typical librarian. Alex is way to sexy and is the granddaughter of the late Franklin Forrest, who may have had the missing painting. Duncan and Alex?s first meeting snaps and sizzles. Alex has her life planned, she wants to settle her grandfather?s estate and move to the big city. She hadn?t planned on a studly professor upsetting those plans.

When a body is found in the library things really start to heat up. Along the way to romance, this couple survives and attempted murder and a shooting. The intrigue in this story is very compelling and will keep you on your toes.

There is a secondary romance that is so sweet and emotional. Gillian is Alex?s cousin and is fresh from a divorce. She reconnects with an old friend Tom who is the cop investigating the new crime wave in town. This romance really complements the main
story.

This book has everything you want in a great book, I just loved it. Alex and Duncan?s chemistry makes the pages singe in your hands. Their verbal foreplay is funny as it is steamy. You can?t go wrong with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very highly recommended, February 13, 2004
This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (Paperback)
When he met the town librarian, Duncan Forbes had trouble reconciling her hooker looks with her spinster personality. Rather than a hair-bun, bifocals and tweed, Alex Forrest sports a short skirt, tight black sweater and do-me heels. In his preoccupation, Duncan scribbles his research notes in a book, only to be caught by the book Nazis who promptly charges him $148 dollars. Specifically, she charges him $41 for the book, $7 for a processing fee and $100 for defacing public property. That is when Duncan realizes that Alex might be related to Franklin Forrest, an antique dealer who reputably had some information on a Van Gogh missing since World War II.

Alex felt a dizzying rush of attraction when she catches Duncan looking up her skirt. But she does not have time for a sexy man while she is trying to get her grandfather's life story from audio tape to print and her grandparent's house sold. Two strangers show up in her library within twenty-four hours, one live and one dead, totally upending Alex's existence. Meanwhile, Duncan seems obsessed with her even as Alex's instincts warn her away from him. From their first kiss, Alex knows Duncan is trouble. Despite their promising chemistry, Alex has no time for a mindless affair with an obnoxious book scribbler she has just met, especially if he has blood on his hands.

Author Nancy Warren pens a potently sensual treat with DRIVE ME CRAZY. The hero and heroine's boldly sensuality threatens to set the pages ablaze. Indeed, Duncan's sleepy sexiness is the substance of fantasy, richly enhancing the way Alex celebrates her own sensuality. As a matter of fact, it would be great if we all could be as comfortable in our skin and expressing sexuality as Alex does. With such remarkable characterizations and engaging plot, Warren's first venture into full length novels is a rousing success and readers will be eagerly awaiting an encore.

4.0 out of 5 stars Steamy comedy that will keep you hooked!, May 23, 2005
By
This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (Paperback)
Known in academic circles as "the Indiana Jones of the Art World," Duncan Forbes is in a sleepy Oregon village on the trail of a stolen Van Gogh painting. He suspects that Alex, the sexy town librarian knows where it is stashed. His sources tell him that her grandfather was involved in the plot to get the paining out of Europe during WW2. But before he can drill her for information, a dead body shows up in the library.

Soon an investigation ensues, throwing Alex and Duncan together, where they act on their smoldering feelings for each other. The chemistry between these two leaps off the pages.

The storyline is made all the more compelling with the colorful secondary characters including the second-chance romance between Alex's cousin Gillian and her former beau Tom, now a police officer.

Part suspense, part romance and part comedy, this one has something for everyone!

3.0 out of 5 stars why didn't I like this more?, August 31, 2009

Nancy Warren has a quick, energetic writing style, and adds just enough quirks and details to make her writing fun. I was really enjoying it for the first 30 pages or so, and then it quickly lost my interest. I had to force myself to finish it. It wasn't that the writing fell apart. I had to think for a while on why I wasn't interested anymore, and I think the answer is that it was just a rather shallow story. She talks about wanting to break stereotypes in this story, but she ends up with a stereotypical break-the-stereotype story. Does that make sense? Her librarian dresses like a hooker, her professor is fit, active and sexy. The drugged out sister is... well, you'll see. Everything was very predictable in it's singleminded effort to be unpredictable. The end result was rebellion for the sake of rebellion, and that doesn't flesh out characters, and it doesn't drive interest in the plot.

This was the first of her novels I've read, and I'm not necessarily sold on them from this outing. I think, because she does get good reviews, I'll try another before I give up on her, but I must say I was disappointed in my first read from her.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny light read., January 6, 2005
This was my first story by this author. It was a nice surprise. It is on the lighter side, so it is funny and the plot flows for the most part. I did figure out who it was pretty early on, but that did not ruin any of the story because there was alot that I did not figure out. Their is the missing painting, a dead man in the library, and why all of this is going on in the sleepy town.
The secondary story was good as well. Cant really go into that without telling most of the story.
Some parts slowed down quite a bit, but then it would pick right back up and go mach speed. Over all I really liked the book and will look for more in the fucture.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good plot; so-so romance, February 25, 2005
By

This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (Paperback)
I didn't like this book as much as the other reviewers here did. The suspense plot is well-designed (although you'll likely guess the murderer early on) and the dialogue has snappy moments, but I never got caught up in the romance. I think the success of a romance novel depends in large part on the quality of the hero and heroine's first meeting, and in this book, their initial exchange fell flat. Duncan is immediately attracted and hits on Alex while she is distant and sarcastic (rightfully so, I thought). I didn't get the sense of a passionate attraction-- just a weird guy making rude comments while the woman wishes he'd stop bothering her. There's a fine line between believable instant-attraction and creepy stalker guy making a sleazy play for a woman, and for me, Duncan and Alex never fit into the first category, only the second.

As the plot develops, the book gets more interesting, especially as Alexis' cousin and the town sheriff meet. In fact, the supporting characters were a lot more interesting to me than Alex and Duncan. When Alex and Duncan do get together, the sex scene is pretty mundane and again, there was no build-up of sexual and romantic tension-- just Duncan confidently asserting to Alex that she would sleep with him until she actually did.

This isn't a bad book; the plot will probably hold your interest. But I'm not going to seek out Nancy Warren's books in the future. She didn't sell me on the romance-- the fact that Duncan was gorgeous wasn't enough to convince me I should be swept up in his interest-- which seemed very shallow-- in Alex. Warren never quite got me to care about these two as lovers or individual characters, despite a very promising premise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Passion and excitement blend together for a fantastic read., January 28, 2004
By
Robin L. Taylor (In the Library Reviews) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Drive Me Crazy (Paperback)
Duncan Forbes is an art professor who's visiting the small town of Swiftcurrent, Oregon, with hopes finding a missing Van Gogh painting. He's also writing a book, and heads to the town library to begin research on his art book, and to see what he can find out about the missing painting. It is at the library where he meets the delectable Alex Forrest. Alex excites Duncan because she looks more like the town hooker than a librarian.

While filing books, Alex sees a man looking up her skirt; bad first impression, even if she feels a sizzling attraction when she catches him and looks him in the eye. Alex returned to her home town to look after her grandfather after her grandmother died. Her grandfather died two months ago, and now she's transcribing his memoirs. Once she's finished, she plans on moving to a bigger city. She's past thirty now and her biological clock is ticking. There just aren't any men in Swiftcurrent that interest her.

Looking for a missing painting that was stolen during World War II by Alex's grandfather makes for a terrific plot. The attempted recovery of this painting leads to murder, shooting and attempted murder. Though the intrigue is light, it remains a strong back story while Duncan and Alex let their attraction lead them to some hot and heavy moments ? and fun and games.

I was surprised, yet pleased, to read a secondary love story in DRIVE ME CRAZY. Alex's cousin Gillian, who's had a hard life, finds the love and strength she needs with Tom, the local cop. Gillian and Tom's story is a tender display of faith and trust.

Prolific author Nancy Warren's first single title, DRIVE ME CRAZY is a fantastic story filled with wonderful elements, two love stories - one hot and sexy story, another sweet and tender - then there's intrigue and excitement. Duncan was very enjoyable. I loved his past, and his knowledge and love of art. His reasonableness and gentleness were wonderful qualities as well. Alex was great too! Her love of books made an impression on me. I also enjoyed the evidence of Ms. Warren's research with matters like art, rock climbing and addiction.

Fans of Ms. Warren will be delighted with this story, as its excellent pacing and wonderful characters blend together to make this an engaging read, one destined for the keeper shelf.
