Too big for some uses.,

This review is from: Drive Medical Single Hand Suction Cup Grab Bar, 12.75 Inches (Health and Beauty)
The Drive Medical Single Hand Suction Cup Grab Bar has big suction cups which grip a smooth wall surface tightly, but they won't grip on standard four inch tiles, unfortunately, because the large cups overlap the grout lines, which eliminates its suction power in many showers and tubs. On unllined smooth surfaces, however, such as fiberglass, it adheres so tightly that it's very difficult to pull off so it deserves a five rating in those conditions. I may keep it for travel use only.

These suction handles really work well...this one requires that your tiles be at least 5 inches square or you will loose suction.

I purchased the bar for use in an area with little use (motorhome). After about a month of occasional use it was on the floor. I have cleaned it and the area and tried to re-adhere, it sticks but will only last approx 1 day before falling off again. I am very disappointed as it could be a potential safety issue.

I bought two of these bars. The one I attached to drywall works fine. The one I put in the shower won't stick longer than 30 min. although I followed all the instructions--cleaned surface, not fastened on grout lines. I contacted Driver and got no help or satisfaction.

This is a very well made and secure product, far superior than other brands. I've had it for a couple of months now and it is extremely secure, but I still check it regularly to be sure.
I think the issue others have had is installation. The wall must be flat and dry and the tiles clean. Also, these are not made for small tiles- the instructions say a minimum tile size of 6x6 I believe, and the edges must be more than half an inch from the tile edge when installed. Grout lines will interfere with the suction.

I'd say these grab bars suck, but they don't. They just fall off. They do not even deserve 1 star, but there is no option to give it nothing.

One month after the warrantee was up the lever on the suction cup broke. I paid $37.00 for one of these and the replacement part were going to be over $60.00. Go for the Safer-er Grip. Cost is half the price for a better product.

Drive customer service is not good.,
This review is from: Drive Medical Single Hand Suction Cup Grab Bar, 12.75 Inches (Health and Beauty)
The clamping lever on one end of the bar failed after about one year. Drive would not honor their 3 year warranty, insisting that the lever was part of the suction cup which only has one year warranty. For want of a 50 cent part, Drive wanted me to purchase the entire suction cup assembly for almost as much as I paid for the unit in the first place. An overpriced product and poor customer service does not rate many stars. I purchased a cheap (about 25$) unit at the same time as the Drive unit and I use it regularly (3-4 times per week) same as the Drive, and it's holding up just fine. The Drive unit looks like quality, maybe this was just a flaw but the poor customer service does it for me. I will never buy another Drive product.

I bought this product two years ago when my 81 year old mother moved into a patio home. She will only take baths, so it is very important for her to be independent in the bathroom. She has an entirely smooth fiberglass tub surround. Once the suction cups were applied properly, we had no problems losing suction. In fact, it stayed stuck on the wall an impressive two years to the day we first applied it! A good thing, since I am not around to keep checking it for her. Recently she found that it was not sticking to the wall any more--I think it fell into the tub when she was not in it. I am about to purchase another one of these grab bars for her and expect it to last as long as the first grab bar I bought.

I purchased this suction grip, hoping we could just plop it on my mother's back and then give her the old heave-ho into the shower. But NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! It sticks to her back for just five seconds before my mom start to hollerin'....and then it just falls clattering to the floor. Lousy design. We just ended up sticking it up on the tiles in the shower where it sticks just fine. Maybe next we'll try out some duct tape on the old gal.
