Well built product!

It is making my recovery from ankle surgery so much easier and less stressful as I am able to get around and feel more steady using this walker than crutches.

I use the rear wheels as a pivot and raise the front wheels just a little to turn or maneuver a corner.

PLEASE READ TO THE END (hopeful ending). When we first got the product, it worked well. My wife used it to temporarily get around until she healed. We bought the unit on 9-23-2010. It was a Godsend. Crutches made life miserable. The knee walker gave her mobility. The only down side was it doesn't steer. She had to lift to turn. This may not have been all bad -- this help build upper body strength. Unfortunately, on 11-5-2010 the brakes fail. That is, the lever that pivots the pull cable broke (NOT THE CABLE ITSELF). The brake handle pivot pin didn't fail. The metal handle broke into two pieces -- a triangular piece secured by the pivot pin and the rest of the brake handle. The brake is CRITICAL going down steep ramps. This makes this unit somewhat dangerous under steep ramp condition due to a roll-away condition. This story gets worse. Despite this danger, my wife continued to use it by avoiding steep inclines. However, on 11-11-2010, the push pins caps that secure the right rear wheel failed. These caps snap into a tube position to secure the wheel in position and from turning inside the tube. Now this wheel drags not unlike the mars rover. For the record, we didn't abuse the unit. We never dropped the unit on it's brake handle. The unit was configured for the left leg. However, despite it being beyond the return date, I got authorization for a full refund. Finally, it appears the model knee walker hand brake grip is different from the one I got. In the product picture, the brake grip is jet black and in a different style. My brake grip was shiny aluminum. It appears their newer model may have fixed this grip problem. I have bought this issue to the attention of DRIVE, knee walker distributer. They will get the returned unit and hopefully fix future products. I hope so.

The Knee Walker is a life-saver!!! This is so much safer than crutches!!! I had surgery on my foot on 12/29/09 and will need to use it for 3 months and I can't imagine not having it!!! I fell 3 times with crutches which I used until this arrived. For $165.00 this is the best one out there, the other ones are so much more expensive and I don't think unless you are really frail that using one that turns is that big of a deal. My Orthopaedic doctor was so impressed that he ordered several to have at his practice for people. I can't say enough good things about this product!!!

This knee walker is great on a straight path. I would recommend spending more and get one where the wheels on the front rotate to assist around corners. However, this device worked better than a normal walker or crutches, and much safer.

I bought this knee walker so I could get around my basement after I fractured my right ankle and ended up in a non-walking cast for eight weeks. I was frustrated by the fact that the front wheels of the knee walker don't swivel; in order to change direction, I have to stop, raise my knee, physically lift the apparatus, and plunk it back down in whichever direction I want to go. It's the opposite of user-friendly. It's also very unstable and tips over easily. Fortunately, I'm agile enough that I could right myself before I fell. An elderly person would have crashed to the floor. The only positive note was that the resting area for the injured leg was very comfortably cushioned, and the brakes work well. This was the least expensive model advertised. Now I know why.

I had foot reconstruction that required me to be completely off of my foot for at least 8 weeks, and I also have severe arthritis all over the place, and I dreaded using a walker during recovery. I ordered the junior sized knee walker because I am a short adult. This knee walker is the best mobility aid I've ever used!!! I am able to get around without problems in my house and in most public places with ease. I also draw lots of attention from people in public who want to know where I got the walker because they all know someone who could really use one. The only drawback to using this walker is that you cannot safely navigate stairs or any surface other than flat ground, but you probably shouldn't be navigating these conditions while you're recovering anyway! :) If you're on the fence about trying this device, don't hesitate to get one!

I purchased this Drive adult knee walker last week just after I had foot surgery. Walking around on crutches, even for a day, was proving to be painful and dangerous. My plan was to return to work within 4 days of my surgery and on crutches there was no way this would happen. My walker was delivered within 2 days with Amazon Prime. The walker is easy to set up and to adjust for height. It takes some getting used to because the front wheels do not turn. However, after using it for just one day, turning the walker became second nature. I also like that if I am going to back up, I know it will go in a straight line. I would recommend this walker for someone who has good balance, good upper body strength and needs to be able to ambulate in more wide-open areas. It is more tedious and difficult to use in close quarters, and I still use the crutches to access smaller, tighter areas. Another benefit of this walker is that you always have a nice compact place to elevate your foot when you are sitting. The hand brake is a great safety feature. I always grab the brake before putting my knee down on the pad to make sure the walker does not roll away. I have added a folded blanket to the pad for extra padding. The pad is somewhat hard and my shin was quite sore after one day's use. The blanket, and getting used to the walker, have helped to reduce this.
As on occupational therapist who has worked in rehabilitation with patients regaining their mobility, I highly recommend this walker for the appropriate patient. It has allowed me to return to work much sooner than my doctors thought I would, I can cook dinner and clean around the house, and has reduced wear and tear on my shoulders and hands. It does not completely take the place of crutches, which I use in small spaces and to get in and out of the house. But for ambulating in the house and at my job, I would be much more disabled without it. Thanks Drive medical for a wonderful product!!
