The Knee Walker is a life-saver!!! This is so much safer than crutches!!! I had surgery on my foot on 12/29/09 and will need to use it for 3 months and I can't imagine not having it!!! I fell 3 times with crutches which I used until this arrived. For $165.00 this is the best one out there, the other ones are so much more expensive and I don't think unless you are really frail that using one that turns is that big of a deal. My Orthopaedic doctor was so impressed that he ordered several to have at his practice for people. I can't say enough good things about this product!!!

This knee walker is great on a straight path. I would recommend spending more and get one where the wheels on the front rotate to assist around corners. However, this device worked better than a normal walker or crutches, and much safer.

I bought this knee walker so I could get around my basement after I fractured my right ankle and ended up in a non-walking cast for eight weeks. I was frustrated by the fact that the front wheels of the knee walker don't swivel; in order to change direction, I have to stop, raise my knee, physically lift the apparatus, and plunk it back down in whichever direction I want to go. It's the opposite of user-friendly. It's also very unstable and tips over easily. Fortunately, I'm agile enough that I could right myself before I fell. An elderly person would have crashed to the floor. The only positive note was that the resting area for the injured leg was very comfortably cushioned, and the brakes work well. This was the least expensive model advertised. Now I know why.

Bought one of these after my boyfriend broke his ankle. Read the reviews and this one was rated as the most stable. It's a great product. What it lacks in turning radius it makes up for in stability and being able to be used outside the house. Here in Minnesota at this time of year we have to deal with snow, ice, salt and sand. This one handles it without missing a beat. I view the fixed wheels as a plus: the unit does not "wander off", and having to pick up the front to turn gives him some exercise (not much because it is pretty light.) Being off the crutches/walker makes getting around much easier and safer, and helps to keep muscle tone in the broken leg. The price is cheaper than renting it for the period of time he will be non weightbearing. I picked up a decent bicycle basket for the front and now he's ready for anything!

I found this knee walker difficult to use. You must manually lift & turn it. After using only 10 days in the house, one of the wheels came apart. Amazon immediately sent me a return shipping label & a tracking number for the return package. I am waiting for my refund now.

A year ago I had foot surgery and it was not healing so it was cruches or a wheel chair so I opted for the knee walker. It takes some getting used to, no sterring ( I did not like that type) , it can tip over by going too fast or on unleveled ground The padding is not thick enough, need a small pillow. It folds up easily for putting in the back sit of a car.

If one leg is immobile from injury or surgery, you mobility is limited to crutches, wheelchair - or, more recently, the knee walker. This alternative offers the user better control over their mobility and more convenience than other methods, and is less tiring. This knee walker by Drive was my choice for reasons of price and ease of transport. It does have to be assembled when received, but it does so easily without the need for tools. The one drawback is it only operates in a straight line; to turn, you must lift the front wheels briefly to point it in the desired travel direction. The brakes are lacking in stopping power. Other models do have steering capability, but are correspondingly higher in price. I suggest renting different models at a medical equipment supply store and trying several different models before committing to buying a product.

Generally excellent product. Makes it easy to get around with my foot in a non-weight-bearing cast. I can get to my car. The scooter folds up quickly and easily and fits in the passenger seat. Good for getting around the house and for short trips outside. The fact that the wheels do not turn is not really a problem, as it is easy to lift the scooter to change directions. On the downside, one must be mindful of what one is doing at all times when using the scooter. It is not difficult to get moving too fast, or get carried away and lose one's balance. Best to keep one hand on the brake at all times and not lose concentration. If you need to adjust the brakes, instructions are available on line--none came with the scooter. The basket accessory seems like a good idea since both hands are needed to operate the scooter safely.

If I had known the Knee Walker front wheels did not turn, only good for going straight I would have never ordered it, because, it is impossible to navigate around corners or any types of turns. My experience with this product was non productive. Bike wheels turn & scooter wheels turn because that is the way you can successfully move from point A to point B. What a waste of my money! It is just taking up space in my apartment.I could not return it because I destroyed the box it was shipped in.I do not recommend this product.

Ok. This thing is SOOOOOO worth the money. In fact, I'd pay $250 for it and still think it was a great deal. Holding one foot up off the ground at all times takes a lot of patience and stamina... more than you think it would. I broke my foot training for a triathlon and was told to go non-weight bearing for 6 weeks so it could heal. So I'm in really good shape cardiovascularly. But this is tough in its own way. Having the knee walker has saved me. Its saved my arms from crutches. There are few, if any balance issues like you have with crutches. You can move fast, you can carry things in one hand easily and steer with the other. It doesn't put undue stress on your shoulders like crutches do. Plus, when I am sitting in a chair, I adjust the cart next to my seat and can support and elevate my foot on the cart too. So it serves a double function... You can't do that with crutches...This would be perfect for someone who is older or for someone who is not in good shape because it just takes less energy to operate than crutches. Also, older people who may have considered a wheelchair instead of crutches have an alternative to consider with this. Its limited to foot, ankle, and maybe below the knee injuries because it requires that you rest your knee on the pad. So if you have a broken femur or a blown out knee, this probably won't work for you. Its cool too. People look at you using it and think "wow! how cool and smart to use that!" You feel more independent with this too because its easier to move around the house and to stand with it (propping your knee on the cart of course). Give it a try. You'll be glad you did! |
