PLEASE READ TO THE END (hopeful ending). When we first got the product, it worked well. My wife used it to temporarily get around until she healed. We bought the unit on 9-23-2010. It was a Godsend. Crutches made life miserable. The knee walker gave her mobility. The only down side was it doesn't steer. She had to lift to turn. This may not have been all bad -- this help build upper body strength. Unfortunately, on 11-5-2010 the brakes fail. That is, the lever that pivots the pull cable broke (NOT THE CABLE ITSELF). The brake handle pivot pin didn't fail. The metal handle broke into two pieces -- a triangular piece secured by the pivot pin and the rest of the brake handle. The brake is CRITICAL going down steep ramps. This makes this unit somewhat dangerous under steep ramp condition due to a roll-away condition. This story gets worse. Despite this danger, my wife continued to use it by avoiding steep inclines. However, on 11-11-2010, the push pins caps that secure the right rear wheel failed. These caps snap into a tube position to secure the wheel in position and from turning inside the tube. Now this wheel drags not unlike the mars rover. For the record, we didn't abuse the unit. We never dropped the unit on it's brake handle. The unit was configured for the left leg. However, despite it being beyond the return date, I got authorization for a full refund. Finally, it appears the model knee walker hand brake grip is different from the one I got. In the product picture, the brake grip is jet black and in a different style. My brake grip was shiny aluminum. It appears their newer model may have fixed this grip problem. I have bought this issue to the attention of DRIVE, knee walker distributer. They will get the returned unit and hopefully fix future products. I hope so.

Though sturdy and safe-feeling, this knee scooter seems to have been engineered for people 5'7" or taller in mind. I am 5'4 1/2," not particularly short for a woman. I had to stand on tippy-toes with the pushing leg in order not to tilt my left hip up (left foot was in cast) 2-3", resulting in sharp hip and back pain. After about nine days of the knee walker, I had to to to the less preferable crutches. I do not recommend this scooter for people under about 5'7".
