Heralded as a virtuoso, Michael Jerome Browne delights us with his newest excursions in a myriad of American folk music styles; swing, country, R&B and traditional blues. Michael Jerome Brownes performance on Drive On demonstrates technique, emotion and an exceptional musicality. Drive On covers traditional blues with varied instrumentation that includes a fretless gourd banjo and a twelve string guitar that sounds as full as an orchestra. Six original songs co-written by Browne and B. Markus are played mostly solo on various guitars and banjos. Other material reinvents some old genres: swing, with an Irving Berlin tune and another tune from Dinah Washington's repertoire; modern country (a George Jones hit from the late seventies) and R&B with songs from Al Green, Sam Cooke and Stevie Wonder.
