Comment: This book has already been well loved by someone else and that love shows. It MIGHT have highlighting, underlining, be missing a dust jacket, or SLIGHT water damage, but over-all itâ?TMs still a good book at a great price! (if it is supposed to contain a CD or access code, that may be missing)

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

In this large-format picture book, a boy describes what his father, a truck driver, does all day. Waking up at 4 a.m., the man looks in on his sleeping son before he leaves for work. After his trailer is loaded, he drives his big rig down the highway, stops for lunch, makes his deliveries, refuels, and heads for home to play catch with his son. Graphically more sophisticated than most books on trucks, the artwork features clean lines, even shading, and strong compositions. People are most often shown as shadowy figures, their faces unreadable or even cropped out of the compositions. The double-page pictures illustrate brief sentences and phrases, leaving plenty of space for talking about details in the pictures. Recommended for the many young children intrigued by trucks, this picture book offers large illustrations of a powerful red truck hauling two different trailers as well as a chance to ride along with the driver for a day. Preschool-Kindergarten. --Carolyn Phelan

Review

* "Striking graphics. . . . In its strong, steady lines and depiction of a deeply pastoral Midwest, this offering could well be seen as the Great American Truck Book." --Kirkus Reviews, starred review

* "A noteworthy picture book debut. . . . Unusual and often cinematic perspectives - a thigh-high view of Daddy gripping the gear shift, a bumper's-eye view of a traffic jam plunge readers into the action and give the compositions a red-blooded energy." --Publishers Weekly, starred review

"Graphically more sophisticated than most books on trucks." --Booklist

This is a great children's book written in the perspective of a little boy about his truck driver father. Wonderful art. Nice plot about a hard working dad. A pleasant read, I highly recommend.

With colorful, vibrant illustrations and simple text, this book has the formula to be any boy's favorite. My sons love looking at the large, detailed drawings of the big rig and all its surroundings. The storyline is simple and the flow of the book is very nice. It is a well-loved book in our home. So much so, in fact, that my 3-yr-old "reads" it to me!

This books gets picked almost every night by our 2 1/2 year old. He's probably heard it 100 times & knows the words by heart. In fact, about 5 pages from the end I stop reading & he finishes for me.

The story is good & almost brings tears to my eyes (as I am frequently away on travel too & know what it's like both to leave & come home).

More About the Author

When I was only four, I drew a picture of my pet turtle, and kept on drawing. Now I'm a father with two boys, and draw things they love: big rigs, work trucks, race cars and now trains. I credit my boys with the inspiration for my previous book Job Site. Drive, my first book was hailed in a Kirkus starred review as the "Great American Truck Book." I received my copy in the mail a week after my older son was born. I read it to him immediately. He seemed strangely disinterested.
