5.0 out of 5 stars Hand crafted great music
The Nonchalants are two musicians who know their craft well and love performing it. Crisp, powerful vocals, and lyrics that speak with humor and candor. The result is an album that feels like an old friend from the first time you play it. If you like artists like Jimmy Buffet, James Taylor, and Michelle Shocked, or just great music, and great fun, give this one a try.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as pleasant as you would anticipate.
This is a little more country than you might expect. After the first few songs you kind of get bored with it. It is only the same song over and over again. On the other hand, if you like pure country, this is definitely the CD for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous pop-blues-folk fusion with funk and flavor., September 3, 1999

Jean Synodinas and Steve Uhler have put together a fabulous pop-blues-folk-rock fusion collection with enough musical technique to keep you interested and enough verve to get you dancing. If you are looking for dance music with make-you-think-later lyrics, and an eclectic muscial style to boot, this is the cd to get.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pack Up Those Kisses, June 14, 2005

This review is from: Drive (Audio CD)
Nonchalants' "Drive" is a delightful independent country set by these denizens of Austin. These tunes set your toe tapping and are delivered with gusto. "My Baby Ain't Got No Money" has Steve Uhler up front on vocals that is a lighthearted happy tune about priorities & values. "Best Not Call Me Ma'am" has Jean Synodinos on lead vocals on a down-home boogie that'd make Marcia Ball blush! "Boomerang Love" is a clever track with barrelhouse piano & a few tasty hooks thrown into the mix. The set ends with "Sweet Mystery" that has a lovely melody and the theologically challenging lyric that we are God & just forgot. Most would probably agree that the best track is the catchy title track that opens the set, "I'm tired of talking about it; I believe we talked it to death; I'm all out of love, out of words & I'm out of breath. You say my kisses don't take you so far, time to pack up those kisses, gas up the car & drive til I can't see your face in the mirror." My favorite track is the uncharacteristically slow "Home," an aching country heartbreaker, "Your lawyer says I can have that small house. Well thanks, but I won't stay another night. Now the ring on my finger taps the wheel as I linger over whether to turn left or right." This is a good set, bright enough to hold the attention and make repeated play a pleasure. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars ENJOY THE RIDE, February 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Drive (Audio CD)
This is a great CD - jam-packed with fresh energy, great hooks, intelligent lyrics, tight playing and killer vox from lead singer Jean Synodinos. The title cut - a liberating kiss-off to an ex-lover - rocks, and other standout cuts include 'Lost Dog', 'Home' and 'My Baby Ain't Got No Money'. An eclectic mix of styles - power pop, blues, zydeco, country and folk - that somehow blends together into a powerful whole. This CD has so much good-time energy it'll recharge your batteries for you. Highly recommended!
