Great Wariner Release,
By Gennie Bailey (Savannah, Georgia United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Drive (Audio CD)
I've always said that Steve Wariner has been long underrated in the country world. His talent and his love of country music are far greater than most "superstars" that are on the charts today. His music has always been able to touch my heart down to the core. It's so honest and the way he delivers it just touches your soul. If I had to pick my favorite Steve Wariner releases, "Drive" would have to be one of them. Released in 1993, "Drive" blends a tasty mix of country and pop that soothes both the traditionalists and the contemporaries. The release itself was an indication of what lay ahead in country music, with songs becoming more "adult contemporary" while still remaining country. All of the cuts of the album are great, but the best tunes are: "If I Didn't Love You"...is a pleasant, upbeat tune with a man letting his wife know how much joy she's brought him, while letting her know all the things he could've done if he hadn't of married her. "It Won't Be Over You"...is another upbeat song. This time the man is telling his ex that the next time he gets his heart broken it wouldn't be over her. It's such a fun song. "Sails" mirrors some of his newer songs with it's acoustic feel and theme-oriented lyrics. It's a beautiful song that will make you close your eyes and dream. And finally, my favorite cut off the album "Drivin' and Cryin'". This is one of those songs that sends those tiny chills down your spine when you hear it. In my opinion, it's the male equivilate of "Shut Up and Drive" by Chely Wright. If you're a fan of Steve Wariner, you've got to own this album. It's not as classic as some of his earlier stuff and not as popular as his new ones, but it's still a great release. The songs bring back a lot of memories for me during the time they were released and it's amazing how some of them take me back to a certain time or place. That, my friends, is when you know you have a good song. Being able to draw from personal experiences is what it all comes down to. Buy this album, you won't regret it. Gennie Bailey-Rogers

All I can say is that if you want quality music, then Steve Wariner is your man. This album is one of my favorites and the song "Sails" will make you wish you were with him sailing away from all of your troubles. Great cd!
