Drive Delivers,
By Don J Isble (San Jose, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Drive to Survive (Audio CD)
I loved Wild Night Out and hoped Drive To Survive would be close. Wow, it's great. Most of the songs run with that trademark driving beat, the one that gets your head nodding as soon as it comes on. On their cut You Got Work To Do, you make a double take and check your CD player because you know you put on ZZ Top by mistake. Cool Guitars is kind of silly but you find yourself humming it during the day. One cut is out of place, Burford's Bop is a throwback to the 40's. I didn't care for it but on the other hand, it shows off their emmense talents, and I think thats what they wanted to do. They do a great modern version of the instrumental Apache. You'll recognize some beats you have heard before in other songs in a few of their cuts, but it doesn't detract from the basic raw power of this CD.

If You Love Great Guitarists, you have to have this!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Drive to Survive (Audio CD)
This is the first CD I ever bought by Jimmy Thackery after seeing him perform live in Johnson City. This CD captures just a little of the magic of a live performance. There is nothing better than the 'Apache' track. 'That's How I Feel' with Mark Stutso (the drummer) singing, is great on the CD, but there is nothing like seeing any of the music performed live. All of Jimmy's CD's are good, but this one is great all the way through.

Classic recording from a great blues guitarist,

This review is from: Drive to Survive (Audio CD)
As on any other Jimmy Thackery/Nighthawks recording,Jimmy has 4 or 5 great songs, except on this one they are pretty much all great. I love "Cool Guitars","Rub On Up", "Drive To Survive",. Very good live performer as in Billy Blues, Houston Texas
