I loved Wild Night Out and hoped Drive To Survive would be close. Wow, it's great. Most of the songs run with that trademark driving beat, the one that gets your head nodding as soon as it comes on. On their cut You Got Work To Do, you make a double take and check your CD player because you know you put on ZZ Top by mistake. Cool Guitars is kind of silly but you find yourself humming it during the day. One cut is out of place, Burford's Bop is a throwback to the 40's. I didn't care for it but on the other hand, it shows off their emmense talents, and I think thats what they wanted to do. They do a great modern version of the instrumental Apache. You'll recognize some beats you have heard before in other songs in a few of their cuts, but it doesn't detract from the basic raw power of this CD.

This is the first CD I ever bought by Jimmy Thackery after seeing him perform live in Johnson City. This CD captures just a little of the magic of a live performance. There is nothing better than the 'Apache' track. 'That's How I Feel' with Mark Stutso (the drummer) singing, is great on the CD, but there is nothing like seeing any of the music performed live. All of Jimmy's CD's are good, but this one is great all the way through.

As on any other Jimmy Thackery/Nighthawks recording,Jimmy has 4 or 5 great songs, except on this one they are pretty much all great. I love "Cool Guitars","Rub On Up", "Drive To Survive",. Very good live performer as in Billy Blues, Houston Texas

This man is sheer dynamite with a guitar. Drive To Survive is a killer album with great work by Jimmy. I saw him live last night at the Lisle Eyes In The Skies concert. He blew us all away. He blew away the Freddie Jones Band who he opened for. For example, he DUPLICATED Jimi Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner... I mean duplicated exactly down to the screech, scream, whine, and wail of Hendrix's Strat. I sat with my jaw dropped! He is the best guitarist I have heard in the last 10 years. This album is some of his best stuff.

This is my second favourite Jimmy Thackery album (after 'Wild Night Out'). A truly great guitarist with a passable voice. It is usually magic when Jimmy is in his solos. 'Slow Down Baby' is the highlight where for once his singing compliments his playing and then he just plays you onto another planet! The album is slightly uneven with (as usual) some duds such as Apache, Burford's Bop which while technically good, lack the excitement of say, 'Rub On Up' or 'You Got Work To Do'.

This cd has all of the bands best talents showcased.Great songs, better playing! Just plain whats not to like.Jimmy can play it all as a guitar player myself he plays the most amazing leads and when you think that there can be no notes left he takes off again.I have meet and told him that there have only been two players that absolutly stopped me in my tracks asking who in the world is that?Him and Stevie Ray Vaughn he said that Stevie was a very good friend and was proud to be thought of in the same league.Buy it crank it up you will want more.
