This review is from: Deep Sea Drive-Thru Micro Machines Hiways&Byways Playset (Toy)
This model was discontinued in 1997, years ago so I am amazed to see it here, but you can find almost anything at Amazon. Micromachines were hugely popular in the 1980's to 1990's and were known for their very tiny scale cars (about 1.5 inches, much smaller than Hot Wheels), monster trucks, construction equipment, race cars, boats, planes and military vehicles. Special cars even included features like the Insiders, an even tinier car inside a car, a car with headlights that lights up, cars with a sunroof that when peered into featured a slide of an inside scene called private Eyes and more. Some micromachine sets were from famous franchise movies or shows including Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5, James Bond, Indian Jones, Predator, Alien, Terminator, Marvel heroes like Spiderman, and more. The company also made character head, like a Scuba Divers Head, or a Star Wars character head that when opened up, again featured a mini play world. All the playsets came with at least 1 vehicle, and sometimes a character and some props like a gas pump or oil can. For awhile Micromachines sold more toy cars than any company, but after it slowed down the Galoob company was bought out by Hasbro in 1999. Following that, most of the Micromachines in inventory were sold off and rarely have they made anything new under the Micromachines name except some Star Wars toys.

Galoob developed some ingenious playset environments for these cars. Transforming playsets like the Super Van City, that looked like a truck the size of a dumptruck, but it opened up into a tiny city with bridges, tunnels, roads and buildings to drive the cars in. There was a military version of the van as well. There were Humvee's that transformed into battle fields, C-7 cargo planes that carried other vehicles, Park N' Go car carrier for collections, farms that transformed to cities like Boomtown, Colonel Cobbs Farm, and so much more. Just do a search on Micro Machines playsets to see some of the ingenuity at work.

In this 1997 model, the Deep Sea Drive-Thru Playset, a fun fast food place to drive your tiny cars through. It connects to the other sets in the Hiways and Biways series. It is a very cool theme with an octopus on the roof holding different props of sodas, burgers and fries. The cars can be moved thru the drive up window by twisting the octopus, very ingenious. The carhop can move, and it has a parking lot to put your hot rods on. It does not come with cars, you were supposed to use it to play with your other Micro Machines cars, sold separately. The 1950's or 1960's decades sets of cars from Micro Machines would be good for this. I bought tons of Micro Machines and playsets. Collectors love these and the prices can get quite high at toy shows. I recommend this or other Micro Machines playsets in all kinds of themes, they are great fun.
