4.0 out of 5 stars Wish I could give it 5...
This set of CDs is one of the best ways to be exposed to new music in the punk rock, pop punk, emo, punk, and alternative genres. Drive-Thru managed to get all sorts of bands on these CD's, with a grand total of 145 songs. It's hard to imagine that much music all at once, in fact I haven't yet listened to all of it. So far so good! :)

There is just so much here...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Best Track on the Whole Thing!
OMG! You have to check out track 44 of the mp3's on the first cd of the compilation. Its called "Outside" and its by this band Overise. And I just mean its one of the best songs I've heard in so long. Up there with Konstantine in its emotional depth, but sorry no pianos. These guys rock!! I hope to see more of them in the future.

There is just so much here to listen to... buy this set if you've got a lot of time on your hands!

The music itself is worth a 5/5, you'll definately find stuff that you'll enjoy for a long time. Better yet, you'll find whole new artists you can look into for more great stuff!

The real issue that I have with this compilation is organization. The MP3 portions of the CDs are as poorly organized as a 13 year old's bedroom!

The names of the files are in the form: XXYYYY.MP3, where XX is the track number and YYYY are four letters of the title. It's nearly impossible to tell what song you're playing! The ID3 tags, the things that Winamp uses to get more information about the song (title/artist/cd/year/etc) are all very very messy. Many misspellings on the first CD, most of the artist names are in the "album" placeholder, and the artist comes up as "no Artist". Very many are just plain labelled incorrectly. It's ridiculous!

I used the paper insert to rename them all to their correct names, that took me easily over an hour!

Oh, and to top it off, track #49 on CD1 is just plain missing.

Drive-Thru Records: shame on you!

The music, however, deserves a 5/5. So much variety, so many songs, you're bound to find at least a CD's worth that you really like!

Hope all that helps...

5.0 out of 5 stars gotta love jack..., May 1, 2005
This review is from: Drive-Thru Records: Pure Volume Compilation (Audio CD)
This CD is worth buying if only for 1 song-- "Kill the Messenger" by Jack's Mannequin. Anyone who loves Something Corporate *as all sane people should* will love it. Andrew McMahon is a musical god in all ways and forms and this song truly shows it. Their debut CD comes out on July 12.

Just a great CD if you want a variety of music. Also check out 1st CD, mp3 track 23. Great song from Evermore, an unsigned band from New Jersey.

This cd is worth so much more than the price, i just wish they would of had all the real audio tracks and mp3's tagged so i wouldnt have to put all the information into them myself for iTunes...

Go out to the mall this weekend and buy this cd! Support the 140+ unsigned and signed bands! Also, check out Echo Screen's track "Rushmore". They are the 5th track on the first disc and the 1st unsigned band on the entire album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yeah. so ECHO SCREEN kicks ass!, April 3, 2006
This review is from: Drive-Thru Records: Pure Volume Compilation (Audio CD)
This cd is really good. i think drive thru/ purevolume did a great job putting this together. some of my favorite bands are on this comp. i would definitely suggest you buy it! some of my faves are:

Tie The Rope - The Format

Sesame Smeshame - The Early November

Say Anything - Woe

ECHO SCREEN - RUSHMORE. this has to be the best song that i have ever heard in my life. They are my favorite band and they are going to be huge. There EP "An American Tale" is ridiculously good, and they are even better live. I would advise everyone to go out and get their Ep. They are in the studio now making a new full length LP so everybody be on the look out for ECHO SCREEN!

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Excellent!!!!, May 5, 2005
This review is from: Drive-Thru Records: Pure Volume Compilation (Audio CD)
This was one of the best purchases that I have made in a long time! Both cds rock! Even with all of the amazing songs, Kill the Messenger by Jack's Mannequin is by far the best! This band's creative edge combined with the distinct talent of Something Corporate's Andrew McMahon is pure musical genius! Its worth buying just for that song.

These are great cds... one of the best songs in this compilation by far is kill the messenger by jack's mannequin. Andrew McMahon writes such beautiful lyrics and melodies. This song is catchy, I can't stop listening to it! If you're a fan of Something Corporate, and you haven't heard Jack's Mannequin yet, do so now! www.jacksmannequin.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Kill The Messenger, April 24, 2005
This review is from: Drive-Thru Records: Pure Volume Compilation (Audio CD)
I'm a big fan of most of the music on this cd. If you like upbeat music with clever lyrics, clearly this is the genre for you. You should also look into more of the works of Jack's Mannequin. They are a fabulous new band started by Something Corporate frontman Andrew McMahon with members of Bike Lock and other bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jacks Mannequin's -Kill the Messenger, April 22, 2005
This review is from: Drive-Thru Records: Pure Volume Compilation (Audio CD)
Jacks Mannequin, a side band started Andrew McMahon, we know as the lead singer and pianist for Something Corporate, brings to us a new type of music. A story line one might say. Starting with Kill the Messenger. We do not know who the messenger is but Jacks Mannequin might tell us some day. With Motley Crue's Tommy Lee playing the drums, we hear a unique type of Piano Rock given to us by the piano genius himself, Andrew McMahon. I highly recommend Jacks Mannequin to everyone and recommend checking them out at: www.jacksmannequin.com
