5.0 out of 5 stars MARK DACASCOS ROCKS!
I watched this movie because of Mark Dacascos, he has to be one of the best Martial Arts Actor out there hes got it all, unfortunately most of his movies leaves a lot to be desired! Drive however is in the Damn Good category!

Mark plays a super soldier type running from his Bosses (the bad guys), he meets up with Kadeem (the comic relief) where the dynamic duo...

The action sequences are very good in this movie. Mark Dacascos gets to show alot more of his martial arts prowse than I have seen in previous movies. Kadeem Hardison is very good. The action sequences are very good in this movie. Mark Dacascos gets to show alot more of his martial arts prowse than I have seen in previous movies. Kadeem Hardison is very good. John Pyper-Ferguson (TopDollar in the STH series) is good as a southern hired gun. Unfortunately, all action and no substantial story makes for an average action flick. The premise is intriguing enough; Toby Wong (Mark Dacascos), has an implant inside his body that increases his strength and agility, its a proto-type. He is coming to America from Hong Kong, to have it removed by a company in California that has agreed to pay him 5 million dollars. Supposenly his motivation to do this is not solely the money, but the fact that the persons that put this in him are evil. Toby is persued by a cowboy headhunter, and agents from the corupt organization that put the implant in him. Along the way, Toby picks up a hostage/cover (Kadeem Hardison), who ends up helping Toby elude capture. The company that developed the implant has come up with a new product, even more powerful than that which Toby has inside him. They send an agent with this implant out to kill Toby. Of course, there is the final showdown. Like I mentioned, the action sequences are very very good. However, Mark is given minimal dialogue, and the story, though a very interesting premise, is not developed any. We mostly are given chase scenes and fight scenes, with a little plot thrown in. Mark needs to find a role that takes advantage of his physical abilities, AND lets him act too.

I watched this movie because of Mark Dacascos, he has to be one of the best Martial Arts Actor out there hes got it all, unfortunately most of his movies leaves a lot to be desired! Drive however is in the Damn Good category!

Mark plays a super soldier type running from his Bosses (the bad guys), he meets up with Kadeem (the comic relief) where the dynamic duo struggles against the nasties in this story. Yes the plot is basic but Mark more than makes up for it. I agree with Dr Morpho, Mark Dacascos would have made an excellent Neo (Keanus character, on Matrix), if only it were true!

Watch this movie, it is an excellent introduction to Mark Dacascos who should be world famous, but isnt! so enjoy his wonderful Martial Arts talent!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE FIGHT SCENES ARE PERFECT!!!, September 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Drive [VHS] (VHS Tape)
MAN, this movie is tight. This is one example that sometimes you just have to give some movies a chance even if it doesn't seem that good before you actually watch it. The last fight scene which was between Toby Wong and the "advanced model" has to be one of the best (if not the absolute best) I've ever seen in a movie (live-action or animated). I wish I knew what it is that keeps him from being as well known as any other martial arts, action star because he's just as good as anyone else. The story is good enough and so is the acting. I just wish they would come out with a sequel to this because the ending to "Drive" had me ready for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super-flashy-dancinig Martial Arts moves. Yeeehaahhh!, August 3, 1999

This review is from: Drive [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie was without any doubt the best of Marc Dacascos. Iwas amazed and impressed at the same time. There many, many flashydancing moves that I've never seen before. It was as good as any Jackie Chan movie. I especially like his flying screw driver move. Marc Dacascos is one of the best Martial Artist in the world, and it's a pity that only a few people pay attention to him I'd realy like to see him working together with Jackie Chan or with van Damme. Marc is without any doubt my number 1 choice for playing Jin Kazama or Kazuya Mishima from the videogame series "Tekken". Very impressive!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Mark Should've been Neo, April 15, 2000

This review is from: Drive [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I got this movie thinking it would be a regular martial arts action movie. I was disappointed in Mark from the movie Double Dragon because I knew he has skills (Mark was great in "Only the Strong"). I saw the movie and was blown away. Mark pulls out all the stops in this film. He uses technical and artistic blocks and punches really fast that you would have to watch it in slow motion to see the form. Each fight scene is well choreographed and the stunts were neat and a bit flashy. Imagine a Jackie Chan movie, then remove the goofy stuff and you get this. Plot is so-so, but who truly cares when it comes to these movies? Comedy wise, it was as entertaining as Ninja Turtles was, only with more profanity and some blood. Toby (Mark) is a Hong Kong agent and a prototype of some mechanism inside his upper body that helps him to be an incredible fighting machine. He wants out and hitches a ride on a boat to America. He is caught and gets away (this is where the movie begins). The 'bad guys' are after him and Toby runs into his sidekick (Kadeem Hardison - some guy I think I saw on the Cosby show once, funny attitude) and they try to get to LA to sell the mechanism, but they need to stay alive in the process. If this plot does not sound interesting enough, then the martial arts will make up for it.
This movie came out before the Matrix. In the movie some of the stunts towards the end use wire works in the action, but not ridiculously too much (a few weird scenes but they were short). The fight scenes start off well in the beginning and continue to get bigger and bigger towards the end. In the Matrix, Keanu annoyed me here and there. Mark proves to you that he should have been "the one".

If you care more about plot, then go for the Matrix. If want to see an actor who should have been Neo, see this movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best martial arts I've seen..., September 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Drive [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Of all the movies I have seen with Mark Dacascos this is by far the best. It had a few funny parts, but the best part was seeing Mark in action. His skills as a martial artist are wonderful to see. If you haven't seen it, and you are a Mark fan, I suggest you see it, and decide for yourself.

3.0 out of 5 stars doesn't even pretend to have a plot, August 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Drive [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie doesn't even prretend to have a plot, it's just one fight scene after another. The director is smart enough to know if you can't think up good dialogue don't use any. The acting never get's cheesy. It's very funny and easy to watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars This movie puts Jackie Chan to shame!!!, June 21, 1999
This review is from: Drive [VHS] (VHS Tape)
By far the best movie ever made. Dacascos is the most unbelievable martial arts man in movie history. Un -F*cking Believable. This movie puts Chan, Van Damme, and anyone else in martial arts movies to shame. He moves like a dancer and has moves like you've never seen before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romeo must die2, July 25, 2000

This review is from: Drive [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Hello everyone, I must say, I agree with other individuals about Mark playing Neo for the matrix. I am a die-hard Jackie Chan film collector and I must say, as a fellow martial artist, I think Marks movements are graceful. The first time I watched drive, I ran out and bought it to add to my collection. Mark probably doesn't get the recognition he deserves but this movie made up for that. This is the kind of movie that amplifies you, like a kid, to go outside and play karate hero (like we used to do when the wu-tang series would come on during saturday afternoons). I think he would play an interesting villian in a possible Matrix 2, Romeo must die 2, or a Jackie chan movie!
