A must have for bare drive storage,

This is a must have for anyone storing drives offsite or at home. The case is well made of a sturdy plastic, is lightweight and the drive fits very snugly inside the case - there are clips on each side to insure no movement of drive. The case lid closes securely and is secured tightly in place with two small button type clips. My primary use is for tansporting my SATA archive drives to my safe deposit box. The drives take minimal space and I know they are secure to/from the destination. I looked at a couple other cases before buying this one and found alternatives either too bulky or pricey. This case is a good buy and I highly recommend.

This container is designed to hold bare (internal) hard drives for travel or storage. Many people are now using bare hard drives in docking stations to do backups and until now there have been few options to store them. The container is made of a tough, but thin plastic. The lid is a bit difficult to open. Shock absorption is good on the edges, but the faces are not as well protected (I can't attest to how well a hard drive would hold up in a drop). Water resistance should be good, IE if you are talking about rain only. It is certainly better then using a shoe box! Unless, something better comes along, I will continue recommend this.

I have two of these cases. I really like how I am able to store my internal drives around, but I see room for improvement on a few areas. First of all, it's more expensive than what I thought it would be. It's basically a hard VHS tape case that fits your hard drive. If I dropped the hard drive case with a drive inside, I can see it cracking a piece of plastic or two. I don't know how friendly I would say these are to transport drives.
On the bright side, they do fit very well, nice and snug. They have a nice 1 square inch piece of padding you can put on the inside of the case so that there is a bit of a buffer between the hard drive and the case. I don't see the drive shaking a lot in the case. So for those purposes I would say it's okay to transport the drive. I'd just make sure to have it inside another safe bag you wouldn't drop. The drive comes with two labels, one for the front and one for the side. It makes the drives in our office look much more organized. It's much better than any other anti-static bag or other material we have used in the past. Overall I like these cases and I will probably buy them again next time for lack of a better, more competitive option.

A standard 3.5" hard drive fits snugly into the snaps on the inside of the case and it doesn't jostle around. Each case comes with a 1" square piece of adhesive foam you can attach to the lid to hold the drive in place securely. With the lid closed, the hard drive certainly wasn't going anywhere, but it looked like the lid was bulging a little bit. Even with the bulge though, the cases could still stack on top of each other without them constantly falling down.
I was moving to a new address and needed to ship my computer there. Not wanting to risk my precious hard drives to the hands of the package handlers, I bought some of these cases and carried them onto the plane instead. I packed them into my suitcase surrounded by clothes. When I plugged them back into my computer, everything was fine, so I guess they did the job they were supposed to do. As far as value goes, I got these for about $5 a piece, which seemed about right. If they are running any more than that though, I would look at some other options.

For a while I was keeping an eye out for Betamax tape cases at thrift store and using them just like these (usually around a quarter a piece). Now I've found a different kind of water/static resistant flip-top case for bare drive storage and transport.
Fifteen bucks for a flimsy plastic VHS/Beta case? That is ridiculous. There are better options out there.

Works as advertised. A 3.5" HDD fits in perfectly, and plastic locks hold the box closed.
Great for backup drives storage.

Yep, it's really just a piece of plastic, but it works so well. Very solid, cool case. Clips inside hold the drive. Effortless and you'll feel good about having your drive safe and sound. A bit pricey for what it is, but worth it.

The plastic is 1/16" thick all around so it will crack if you drop if from standing height with a hard drive in it. It came with a 1"x1" foam pad so that your HDD doesn't THUD when you put it inside or set it down on your table. It's expensive but considering there aren't many options, it's an excellent alternative to stacking your HDD's in anti-static bags.
