Book Description

August 13, 2004

Linna Fortense knows any woman would be happy to have Del Tennvic as a lover. The problem is, the burly Xanderran doesn't know she's a woman. Del thinks she's a Pleasurebot, a KMPN-Model, and Linna's not about to tell him the truth. In Newcity, being something other than what you claim to be can get you terminated. When Howard Adar and the Ruling Council crack down hard on mechos, those citizens who aren't fully human and aren't quite machine, Linna has no choice but to tell Del the truth. Then the race is on to get them both out of Newcity before Adar's Security Operatives discover Linna's secret and Del's part in keeping it.

Del has admired Linna for a long time. He knows she'd be more than happy to give him her body in return for his help in getting her Offworld. It's an offer Del desperately wants to accept. The trouble is, Xanderrans mate for life, and Del's not sure he's ready to make that choice. When an overly amorous space ship captain sets her sights on him, though, Del discovers he might not have a choice at all...

5.0 out of 5 stars Cyber humans, January 2, 2006
This review is from: Driven (Paperback)
Linna Fortense is a mecho--a human who has been augmented by mechanical body parts to repair damage from an accident. No one knows she is a mecho. Living in Newcity, she is masquerading as a KMPN (Kompanion) robot because she is a person living on the edge of society--mechos do not have the rights of full humans nor of full robots. KMPNs were made for work as prostitutes, so that is how Linna survives. Del Tennvic is a taxi driver, an expatriate Xanderran with special feelings for Linna, even if she is a robot. When a crackdown on mechos and aliens in the Newcity endangers Linna and Del, they escape into the Oldcity, and from there into space. Their route is neither straightforward, nor easy, but along the way they discover that they care a great deal about each other.

This story is a loose sequel to Hart's Passion Model, and combines both believable science fiction and an erotic love story, and it does that very well. The science fiction story is fascinating and well told, and the love story is an integral part of the plot. This is a combination that is often hard to achieve. The cultures of Newcity and Xanderra are fascinating and carefully described. The story's theme touches upon conflict and love between people of different cultures and races, which are themes of great importance for us today. Linna and Del come across as real people, with real problems, and this reader was caught up in their lives. I really enjoyed this novel and recommend it highly! -- Jean, Fallen Angel Reviews (courtesy of Fallen Angel Reviews)
