Cyber humans,
By
This review is from: Driven (Paperback)
Linna Fortense is a mecho--a human who has been augmented by mechanical body parts to repair damage from an accident. No one knows she is a mecho. Living in Newcity, she is masquerading as a KMPN (Kompanion) robot because she is a person living on the edge of society--mechos do not have the rights of full humans nor of full robots. KMPNs were made for work as prostitutes, so that is how Linna survives. Del Tennvic is a taxi driver, an expatriate Xanderran with special feelings for Linna, even if she is a robot. When a crackdown on mechos and aliens in the Newcity endangers Linna and Del, they escape into the Oldcity, and from there into space. Their route is neither straightforward, nor easy, but along the way they discover that they care a great deal about each other.
This story is a loose sequel to Hart's Passion Model, and combines both believable science fiction and an erotic love story, and it does that very well. The science fiction story is fascinating and well told, and the love story is an integral part of the plot. This is a combination that is often hard to achieve. The cultures of Newcity and Xanderra are fascinating and carefully described. The story's theme touches upon conflict and love between people of different cultures and races, which are themes of great importance for us today. Linna and Del come across as real people, with real problems, and this reader was caught up in their lives. I really enjoyed this novel and recommend it highly! -- Jean, Fallen Angel Reviews (courtesy of Fallen Angel Reviews)
