Since the early days of Atari's Pole Position and Accolade's Test Drive, computer and arcade driving and racing games haven't often deviated from a basic formula. Aspiring speed racers place themselves behind the wheel of one of several real-world or fictional cars and attempt to complete a curvy track under a strenuous time limit. Recently, however, games like Interstate '76 and Midtown Madness eschewed the constraints of typical race games by adding elements like combat and realistic driving situations. GT Interactive's Driver continues to break formula with an engaging storyline, mission-based gameplay, and a special "Director Mode" to coordinate, save, and replay the most thrilling car chases.

The driver plays the role of Tanner, an undercover cop posing as a getaway driver for hire. Although Driver's box features routine racing-game-like screenshots, the game instead holds over 40 missions. You're required to complete a wide variety of tasks such as escaping police pursuit, making deliveries, and chasing insubordinate employees.

Gameplay takes place across four beautifully rendered cities--Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Miami--and the intuitive steering controls, permitting such required maneuvers as backward 180s and power slide turning, prevent the action from becoming cumbersome and complicated. This is a great computer game! The cars are cool, and the citys that you can drive in are even better. The citys are Miami, San Francisco, Los Angelas, and New York. I still haven't beaten the undercover missions, which is where you can choose which mission to do, and then try to beat it. What's really fun is some of the car chases that you have with the police. There is even a place where you can see the chases in different angles! Not only can you do missions but there are some seperate little games like "Survival" and "Pursuit" which are all really fun. I think that parents that are looking for a computer game to buy for their kids this is the one! I recomend that the ages be between 12 years and up. The graphics aren't the best, but the game makes up for it. Also, in case some of you are wondering, this game does work for Windows XP. Hope this helped!

First of all, if you like driving games, get DRIVER! It's a whole lot of fun. It's relatively easy to play, and if you play it long enough, you get cheats. The main object is to run from the cops. You have a felony meter and damage meter. The more you make a cop mad, the more felony you get. If your damage level goes all the way up, you're dead. It's the ultimate racing game. (...) So you aren't getting a bad price for hours of non-stop, action-filled gameplay. It's a definent must buy for all PC gamers!

i used 2 have this game but i lost it i am looking to buy it cheap again and now i found it. THIS GAME IS LONG-LASTING AND VERY FUN
