Colorful--Little Fans of Cars Will Enjoy This Book,
This review is from: Driving Buddies (Step into Reading) (Cars movie tie in) (Paperback)
Cars is the name of a movie to be released by Disney/Pixar in June 2006. For some reason, a series of books have been available for purchase since April. This means that the little ones (and their parents!) will know the end of the story before they see the movie should they read a book like Driving Buddies before the release date.Featuring colorful illustrations from Disney's Storybook Artists, Driving Buddies gives an overview of the entire movie (including, unfortunately, the ending) rather than focusing on just one section of time (like many children's books based on movies). At 32 pages, this book focuses mostly on the relationship of McQueen, the snazzy, cocky red sports car that came zipping through town, and the rusty tow truck named Mater. Without giving away the plot of the story, McQueen learns valuable lessons about "winning" and friendship. Driving Buddies is a Step 2 book in the Step Into Reading series by Random House. Step 2 books feature large words and simple sentences, and is geared towards beginner readers (Preschool-Grade 1) who recognize familiar words on sight--but can sound out new words with help. My son requests this book often as a bedtime story, as well as a chapter book based on the Cars movie (we do a chapter a night). If your child loves cars and colorful books, Driving Buddies is a great read.

Recite a Memorable Story at night,

My son who is 2 3/4 yo loves this story so much that we recite it at night. I tell parts of it, and he chimes in with what he remembers. The first few times we did it, he remembered parts I didn't remember! Very easy read. I wish there were more books like this! I do caution that it gives away the story.

Sparked a sudden interest in reading,

Our 3 y.o. daughter is obsessed with the movie 'Cars'. One night on a shopping trip I brought this book home on a whim. Not a single bedtime has gone by since without reading this book. She loves it so much that she wants desperately to learn to read it for herself. She even recognized the word 'McQueen' repeated throughout the book and reads that word on her own now. The book is already well loved and dog eared but standing up to it all.The pictures in the book are hand-drawn and give a high-level overview of the story. It skips many of the details in the movie but my daughter doesn't seem to care very much about accuracy, detail or that it looks different than what's in the movie. We've read hundred of books to her but none have sparked her interest quite like this. I don't know if it's timing because she's getting older or the tie-in with the movie. I don't care even if it seems over-commercialized. Whatever keeps her interested in reading is what counts. I'll surely be buying more books in the series.

I bought this book at Wal-Mart and you cannot believe how good of a story it is! I read it once to my sister and she simply loves it! I love it, too, and I constantly start picking it up and reading it. I recommend this for every parent and child and yes, I certainly agree with the last review about this book.

If you like cars, here is the book for you. This is a great book all about two best friends. This book is also a movie from Disney Pixar! It has some of your favorite Pixar cars characters. It is an easy reader book but it's not boring. There is a website at Disney Pixar where you can play games and more! If your child is a car lover this is an awesome book for them. You can also collect the cars. It takes place in a nice little old town called Radiator Springs. There is a mystery. Will McQueen win the piston cup and be Dinocose new son? Will the Hudson Hornet named Doc ever go back to piston cup racing? Find out in this book. Also watch Maters Tall Tales on Disney.
