Product Description

Outlaw supercar driver Jerry Staute has just had one tough summer in Texas. But his return to college offers no let up, as one of his military instructors goes on a shooting spree, threatening the lives of all the students in his charge. The firefight which ensues eventually results in Staute's dropping out of college.

Soon after, Staute's offered a well-paying job for a criminal organization: if, that is, he can pass the initial unusual interview-- and then successfully elude pursuit by an entire state's police force!

The job Staute wins from the chase offers up its own hazards though. Such as when a canceled run in Kentucky leaves him inadvertently embroiled in a murderous family feud, deep in the mountains. There's no one to save an entire family from being massacred there but for Staute, and one of the family's own little boys.

Another instance on the job leads Staute into a clash with a rival smuggling gang. The gang's ambush forces Staute over a cliff at speed, sending him tumbling into a deep mountain wilderness. Luckily, Staute not only survives the plunge, but retains his mobility as well. And thus begins perhaps the greatest off-road pursuit of a street car by motorcycles and four wheel drives in history.

'Driving Needs' is the fourth book in The Shadowfast Supercar Driver Logs series, which details the adventures of Jerry Staute and his home-built Ford Mustang supercar.

The Shadowfast Supercar Driver Logs were inspired by actual people and events from the author's personal life.

Jerry Staute and his outlaw Mustang are back!

It's amazing how similar some of his mods and gimmicks were to some of what I conceived for my own 'mobile back in the day. But his exploits far surpass my own.

In this book, Jerry lives out a real-life Smokey and the Bandit scenario, and gets into a really hairy scrape as a result. People are literally out to take his life. And they probably should have succeeded, were it not for some crazy luck followed by some country-boy resourcefulness...and a well-prepared street machine.

This is like a suspense-thriller, only more believable in most respects.

Henry Brown is the author of Virtual Pulp: Tales of High Adventure, Low Adventure, and Misadventure, as well as the military thriller Hell and Gone. He is the columns editor at New Pulp Fiction, and does some blogging of his own at the Two-Fisted Blogger.
