Drobo Rack Mount Kit for Use with Drobo Pro, Drobo FS, and Drobo Elite Storage Arrays

Hey - it's a rack mount - a bent bit of metal and a couple of un-necessary plastic fairing moldings to make it look pretty. I don't know about you - but I lock my rack and no one is going to see it! The plastic is unnecessary.

It's a lot of money for what it is. To add insult to injury - if your rack uses 12/24 screws - they only provide 10/32's in the box. It's a minor point but a complete and valid complaint if I am going to pay this much for the mount. Definitely lowers the stars.

Does it do the job? To be fair - yes - but next time I'll buy a $30 3U vertical wall mount and adapt it by mounting it horizontally!

I was a hesitant to purchase a rack mount that retails for $200 but I figured since it was purpose built for the device and we were under a short time constraint, then I'd give it a shot. The first thing I must point out is the fact that the design is very ugly. Anybody who takes pride in their rack work would be ashamed to use such a poorly designed component. Furthermore, when we went to install our Middle Atlantic trim strips we suddenly realized the bulky and protruding Data Robotics Drobo rack mount ears stick several inches out from the front of the rack which also happens to cover the screws where the trim strips are to be installed.

The only two options are to leave the Drobo rack kit and cut the trip strips, which would look horribly wrong. Or, ditch the Drobo rack kit all together. Of course, we did the latter.

The best two options when rack mounting this product in terms of form and functionality, is to:
1. Purchase a Middle Atlantic RSH customer laser cut rack shelf (costs less than the Drobo kit).
2. Purchase a standard rack shelf and install acoustic fabric on the sides to cover the "empty space." This works surprisingly well and puts a nice finish touch to the finish product of your rack.

This rack mount made our Drobo look really nice in our server rack. It was easy to install. Great cosmetic improvement,too!

I have used Drobo products for a couple years now and have found them to be reliable and easy to set up. The included management software is easy to use and understand and the technology underlaying the device is top notch. I have terrabytes of data I cannot afford to lose and I trust it all to Drobo.
