Solid Groove Metal Album,
By
This review is from: Droid (Audio CD)
Droid's first album is great. Their drummer notably is amazing. My first listen through, I didn't care for the vocals but absoluetely loved the drumming. However, after a few more listens the vocals grew on me and I find them to complement the rest of Droid quite well. I can't recall many if any guitar solos(not a good or bad thing) but the guitar work is solid as well.My favorite songs on this album are the first four. However, each song is good and I never have the urge to skip tracks. My only qualm is I wish they utilized Deftone's Chino Moreno amazing voice better. He mainly just screams, but him singing more than a few lines would have been nice. It's hard to compare this band directly to other bands I listen to. The album isn't very melodic, there are no guitar solos, and they don't growl. They're closest to DevilDriver which is no suprise as they are a groove metal band as well. The album is fast, powerful, full of energy, and original. The lyrics are understandable(unlike many metal bands) which is a plus in my book. However, the vocals at the same time are not clean which is another plus. If you like Groove Metal or metal in general you will love this album. I find myself coming back to it for a listen time and time again no matter how many new albums I buy. Best Song: Fueled by Hate

The Ultimate...,

This album is addictive...Droid rocks and makes other music...well it makes other music seem pointless. Good bye to all the "boo-hoo feel sorry for myself" junk, good bye to the "she's gone" bunk, "oh boo-hoo I just got out of rehab and 2 million people should feel sorry for me cause I am so rich" yuckies... Relentless metal... No remorse, no regret, the way we were taught by the original "M.U.Y.A." kings before they lost their way. There are not many left who bust out the metal the way it should be dealt...Thanks Droid for the brutal attack that leaves me feeling spent and wanting more every time I listen. Quality metal not for the weak...

Earth-moving audio violence,

From beginning to end, this album doesn't let up. The sound is so crushingly heavy and violent, it sounds like it was forged in a heavy machine factory. The songs have a headbangin' groove but each chugging riff and drum beat is unbelievably thunderous and destructive, as if each chord was crashed down with a sledgehammer. There are a lot of hardcore/metal bands who certainly bring the pain, but this is a rage and bludgeoning effect that I have rarely experienced. No melodic interludes, yet no cliche breakdowns either- these guys are simply gratuitous heaviness.Imagine an album comprised entirely of the uber-heavy parts of early Between the Buried and Me with Meshuggah's vocalist and add a generous dose of Lamb of God's furious grooves and you have an idea what Droid is like. This is the 800 pound gorilla that rocks wherever it wants.

Thick even death. Gives a feeling of a refined better version of old Morbid Angel. Being a swede it is easy to compare Droid with early In Flames and Dark Tranquility, although at a some what slower pace, keeping the force and the feeling of being angry.

Perfect!,

This awesome new self titled album by Droid is fantastic! This is pure heavy metal! This CD assaults the listener from start to finish. Only one word describes this album....BRUTAL! This album has been released by Emotional Syphon Recordings, which is Munky from KoRn's new record label. It was produced by Munky himself. It includes a killer track with guest vocals by Chino form the Deftones. Make sure you pick this disc up. You will not be disapointed!!!! Check out Droid this summer on the Family Values tour with KoRn.

Ok, if you like hard hitting heavy metal with vocals that strike fear in others hearts this is the CD for you! I heard these guys for the first time live at the Machine Shop in Flint MI and I liked them so much I had to buy their album after the show. They were an opener and I liked them more than the head lining band, heck, I don't even remeber the head lining bands name cause these guys took the show! They hit hard through out the whole CD and you won't have to worry about them slowing down cause they don't! This CD will make you want to stand up and ROCK OUT all night! Buy this CD, you won't be disappointed!

Droid Rage,

As the first act signed to Korn guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer's imprint label, Emotional Syphon Recordings, Droid are in the lucky position to not only be promoted shamelessly by the guitarist in every interview, but also to tear up the stage opening up for the boys from Bako, as they were on the most recent Family Values Tour, and not surprisingly, will provide support for the band in the fall. So this debut of theirs better be good, right?Well, considering a few years ago they were a rap-rock outfit who doubled as the back-up band for the live incarnation of Fieldy's Dreams, this album is quite a stunning surprise. The surprises end there, however, as Droid's self-titled debut delivers absolutely nothing new to the metalcore genre. To call them Hatebreed-lite would be unfair, because they are also Lamb Of God-lite and Chimaira-lite as well. Needless to say -- and it's a shame -- if you've been paying attention to modern metal over the past three years or so, Droid's sound will come across as faceless and recycled. To be fair though, it's an enjoyable, catchy metal album at that. Even if there are a slew of bands who can do this so much better than them, Droid at least deliver fast, heavy and catchy songs that are easy to lock into and enjoy. A guest spot from Deftones frontman Chino Moreno on "Vengeance Is Mine" pops up half-way through the album to break up the monotony, and is without a doubt the most exciting of all twelve tracks. Having a vocalist like Chino on this song only goes to show how much more interesting this band could be with a different singer, or at least what they would sound like if frontman James Eason didn't bark his diatribes in such a predictable, Jamey Jasta way and opted for a more unique approach. Such is the problem with Droid though. A lot of been there, done that, without much desire to break the mold or at least tinker with a tired sound. Fans of the genre will find this easy listening, and to the rest, it will blend in with an already overcrowded genre.

This Is A Great CD, I Could Listen To It Begining To End Every Time I Put It In. I Mean I Love The Butal Music, James Growling Vocals And The Lyrics Are Great. Like In The Song "FUELED BY HATE" James Is Singing About An Abusive Step Father Or Mabey Just His Moms Boyfriend. Mabey This Never Happened To Him But Anyone Whos Ever Been In This Situation Would Get This Song. Like The Lyric "How Much Can I Take, This Mans Mind Fueled By Hate, How Could You Just Let Him Pound My Damn Head Like This." All In All I Could Go On And On But Lets Just Say This Is A Must Have For Any METAL COLLECTION (notice i didn't say HEAD) And For $4 At Amazon You Won't Be Disapointed, I Got It At Coconuts For $12 New And I'm Happy.
