I have a LOT of goldfinches. I can have as many as 12-14 finches at a time, so I needed a large feeder. I fill this feeder usually weekly, so I go thru a lot of food. I really feel Droll Yankees makes the best, so I bought this feeder. I noticed there was some mold near one of the lower perches. I immediately emptied out the feeder and made an effort to clean it. NIGHTMARE! The 10 perch rods run thru the center, so using a brush to clean the bottom wasn't happening, assuming you own a 36 inch brush. I tried filling up the tube, but the water leaked out the ports. To make a long story short, I was unable to clean the feeder, so I purchased a new Droll Yankees onyx everclean nijer feeder. It is 24 inches and has only 9 perches, but at least the birds won't get ill from the mold. The feeder is otherwisse well made - just impossoble to clean. Hope this review helps!

i just ordered my 2nd 36-inch 20-port feeder. I had to ..... as I type there are over 50 goldfinches outside my window all trying to feed! i also have 2 of the Droll Yankees 6 port tube feeders in use, Droll Yankees CJTHM15G 15-Inch Green New Generation Thistle Feeder which I can also recommend but the bigger feeder is probably a best bet.

Goldfinches feed in flocks so the bigger the better! I put my first feeder out in February and within a week was stunned to have them suddenly appear en masse. This is a new home for me and I had no clue what birds might show up to feed. I also purchased Droll Yankees YF Flipper Bird Feeder for feeding other types of birds and keeping the squirrels off - it does work!

Was hoping for Goldfinches with the Nyjer seed and the tube feeders and was I ever rewarded! This is a durable well made easy to fill (although it is 3 feet tall) feeder. The only drawback is the amount of thistle seed these lovely creatures can eat!! But it's worth it for the enjoyment it brings me (and my 2 cats who love to sit and watch all day out the window). It's a five star product - just ask a Goldfinch! : )

Although this feeder is plastic, it looks nice and as soon as I put it up lots of new birds appeared in my yard! I already had more standard feeders, but this one seemed to offer soemthing new with the Nyger seed. Big birds won't go for it-- so the little goldfinches get their own place now. Fun!

These do attract and feed a lot of birds.

However, squirrels will gnaw the narrow seed ports bigger. If you have squirrels, you need to get a thistle feeder with metal around the holes (Amazon sells at least one).

If it wasn't for the squirrel problem, I would rate this as 5 stars.

We got this feeder to deal with the overcrowding and squabbling between the Sparrows and Finches at our smaller Nyjer seed feeders. It solved the Sparrow conflict ... they can't figure it out so don't go near it. After a few worrying days of no birds going near it the Finches started using it and it is now a popular stop for them. I don't know if our Sparrows are a bit dim but they still can't figure it out .... the access is through small slits in the tube as opposed to a larger opening they can get their heads into on the smaller feeder. So now the old feeder keeps the Sparrows happy and the new one keeps the Finches going.
It does say it is a feeder for Finches .. but I was surprised that it seems to work only for Finches. So as a Finch feeder it is excellent... but if you want a more general feeder this one has limited attraction.

I echo everything the other 5-star reviewers say about this sturdy, convenient and (for the yellow finches) very popular feeder. The only thing that shocked me is that despite how much seed this large feeder holds, the finches empty it so quickly I need to refill at least every other day. This feeder gives the joy of seeing a whole flock of finches feeding together but is much better in rainy weather than the Nyger socks and mesh tubes that allow the seed to get wet much more easily.

This bird feeder is an absolute winner. Easy to fill, sturdy, and it is often covered with feeding finches. This is the second one I've bought and I gave it as a gift to my sister who is also delighted with it.

We bought this feeder to leave at our place in the country. We filled the feeder with Nyjer seed and enjoyed watching the finches discover it. We went home and returned in 3 weeks to find that the feeder tube had been chewed through, not just at the ports, but almost all the way around the bottom of the tube, completely ruining it. We have two other droll yankee Onyx feeders that we've used at the same location for a long time, without problems. Looks like we need to try the armored thistle feeder instead.

This is a great product that allows me to feed a lot of finches at one time!!

36" Goldfinch tube feeder is a wonderful product, well-made, squirrels don't seem to like it; it was shipped promptly, packed well, and I would do business anytime with this seller. The Droll Yankee hummingibrd feeder is beside it, with red impatiens underneath. To the left, is a roller feeder for sunflower seeds and a Droll Yankee tube feeder for safflower seeds. Plenty of space for more feeders, arch home-made for just what I want, cast-iron bird multi-hooks also a yard sale buy. Not much money invested and what pleasure. Send email address for a .jpg photo.
