This is the first truly squirrel proof feeder that I've found, and believe me I've had several! My home backs up to a patch of woods, so critters are abundant. As long as this is placed away from the trees or other structures that the squirrels can launch from, it is impossible for them to get the seed. However, I had to move the feeder from it's location to put in a new deck, and when I tried to put it back, one extension arm broke off as I was trying to put the auger back into the ground. I now have it supported by the remaining two arms wedged under the edge of my deck. Overall an excellent product. I've had this for over a year.

I used to have a beautiful wooden bird feeder with a copper roof but for 14 years I had to fight to keep the squirrels away from the feeder. I tried everything under the sun but the squirrels always won and they finally ruined the wooden feeder with their chewing. I gave up and after a lot of research I bought the Droll Yankees Jagunda feeder. It is fantastic. It is not like the wooden feeder I used to have but it is beautiful in its own way and it was quite easy to put up. It will be easy to clean and take down if the weather is horrible. But the very best thing is that the squirrels just cannot get to the seed. They can climb the pole but they can't get beyond the baffle. They try to figure it out but can't. All they can do is get some seed that drops on the ground. So far the birds have been slow to shine up to the new feeder. Sometimes they fly up to it to check it out but then fly away. There are not as many birds around now anyway with the warm weather and I am hoping my birds will get used to the new feeder because I used to get chickadees, cardinals, woodpeckers, bluejays and many others. I am thrilled I no longer have daily fights with the squirrels.

I enjoy feeding the birds, but I haven't enjoyed bird feeders. They tip, fall over or the feeder comes off. Because I am a droll yankee myself (from Connecticut) I was hesitant about paying this much for a bird feeder. Well, it's worth every penny! It was a cinch to install--even for an old lady like me-- and the augur arms make the feeder nice and steady on the ground. The squirrels are irritated they can't get onto the feeder, which also delights me--they are welcome to the seed that the birds kick onto the ground. As other reviewers have noted, it takes a bit for the birds to come. I snapped a wooden chopstick in two and inserted the pieces into two of the seed holes. Now I have a crowd of birds, including cardinals who seem quite happy to perch and eat. The feeder is not as tall as it would seem from the description, because the last foot or so is consumed by the feeder--it doesn't sit on top but is threaded through the pole. That's good for stability of the feeder, but I ended up buying a Droll Yankee 2' extension to get the feeder up high. It's not a problem filling because you can loosen the clamp the feeder sits on and slide it down the pole to add the bird seed. Yes, an excellent product indeed.

I purchased this feeder on another site, where I paid more than it is, now, on Amazon. I live in upstate NY, so it gets cold and we have quite a bit of snow at times. When I first got the feeder in late October, I thought it was good and especially like the pole with the auger. I did not think the way the top screwed on was the easiest. Now, that we've had a couple of big snow storms and it has been quite cold, I couldn't even get the top off to fill it! I tried until my fingertips were numb (yes, I had gloves on) and finally pulled it off and brought it inside. Even then, when I tried to unscrew the two pieces, a piece of the threaded plastic tube broke off! I paid $125.00 for this thing and thought I was getting something special! Disappointing.

I'm amending my review because I contacted Droll Yankee and they couldn't have been nicer. They are sending me a replacement part gratis. She also offered suggestions and even said I could return the feeder, if I wanted to. Great customer support. If this works any better with the new part, I will increase the number of stars on this review.

Since replacing the part I had problems with originally, I have not had any trouble with removing the top on this feeder to fill it. In fact, it works like a charm and I am now very happy with it. I can't stress enough the importance of contacting a company whose product your having a problem with. Many, like Droll Yankee, are more than willing to solve the problem. I have also increased my rating of this product.

I have had this feeder for over a month now and I love it. I was getting a lot of squirrels at my feeders and though I like them, I couldn't afford to feed them. I got this feeder and no more squirrels except for what they pick up underneath it. It took the birds a while to get used to it and start feeding on it but once they did it works great. The Rose Breasted Grosbeaks were the first ones to dare use the new feeder and I put twigs on it to encourage them. Now I don't need the twigs and there are a wide assortment of birds at the feeder. The one change I would make is to make the top bell larger to keep the seed drier when it rains. I bought a larger bell and put it over the existing one and that works well. I feel I got a feeder that I finally like and will keep for a long time.
