Amazon.com Review

As teens, Lori Corcoran and Sean Black shared a brief love that ended in tragedy when a woman died and Sean was tried, and subsequently acquitted, for her murder. Now, 15 years later, Sean and Lori both return to their hometown in southern Florida just as another woman from their circle of high school friends is brutally murdered. Sean, a bestselling crime novelist, is drawn into the police investigation, while Lori, a widow with a teenage son, is reunited with old friends... one of whom may be a serial killer. As their feelings for each other reignite, Lori and Sean struggle to make sense of the past and elude a killer who's striking with increasing frequency. Graham skillfully manages a large cast of characters and keeps the suspense simmering, providing just enough clues and titillation to make the pages turn. --Ellen Edwards --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From Publishers Weekly

All of Lori Kelly Corcoran's friends are drop dead gorgeous, so which one grew up to be a serial killer in her hometown of Coconut Grove, and who murdered her pal Mandy Olin 15 years before? Lori, a teacher and sportswear designer, has returned to take care of her sick dad. Also back in town is Sean Black, the sexy boy from the other side of the tracks who was tried for Mandy's death and acquitted. Now a respected forensic archeologist, a professor and the author of bestselling thrillers (sorry, fiction is stranger than truth), Sean has returned to South Florida to sort out his troubled past. In Graham's first contemporary romance, she leaves behind the cliches of her reliably titillating bodice rippers for the cliches of romantic suspense, including the formula psychopath who speaks his inner monologues in italics. In a new twist, her beta couple indulge in a threesome, giving the experienced reader at least one coarse setpiece she has not read a thousand times over.

More About the Author

New York Times and USA Today best selling author, Heather Graham was born somewhere in Europe and kidnapped by gypsies when she was a small child. She went on to join the Romanian circus as a trapeze artist and lion tamer. When the circus came to South Florida, she stayed, discovering that she preferred to be a shark and gator trainer.

Not really.

Heather is the child of Scottish and Irish immigrants who met and married in Chicago, and moved to South Florida, where she has spent her life. (She has, at least, been to the Russian circus in Moscow, where she wished she was one of the incredibly talented and coordinated trapeze artists.) She majored in theater arts at the University of South Florida. After a stint of several years in dinner theater, back-up vocals, and bartending, she stayed home after the birth of her third child and began to write. Her first book was with Dell, and since then, she has written over one hundred and fifty novels and novellas including category, suspense, historical romance, vampire fiction, time travel, occult, horror, and Christmas family fare.

She is pleased to have been published in approximately twenty-five languages, and has had over seventy-five million books in print. She has been honored with awards from Walden Books, B. Dalton, Georgia Romance Writers, Affaire de Coeur, Romantic Times, the Lifetime Achievement Award from RWA and more. Heather has also become the proud recipient of the Silver Bullet from Thriller Writers. Heather has had books selected for the Doubleday Book Club and the Literary Guild, and has been quoted, interviewed, or featured in such publications as The Nation, Redbook, Mystery Book Club, People and USA Today and appeared on many newscasts including Today, Entertainment Tonight and local television.

Heather loves travel and anything that has to do with the water, and is a certified scuba diver. She also loves ballroom dancing. Each year she hosts the Vampire Ball and Dinner theater at the RT convention raising money for the Pediatric Aids Society and in 2006 she hosted the first Writers for New Orleans Workshop to benefit the stricken Gulf region. She is also the founder of "The Slush Pile Players", presenting something that's almost like entertainment for various conferences and benefits. Married since high school graduation and the mother of five, her greatest love in life remains her family, but she also believes her career has been an incredible gift, and she is grateful every day to be doing something that she loves so very much for a living.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stayed up til 2am reading this book. Loved it., July 13, 1998

Heather did a great job. I thought I knew who the killer was; when suddenly someone would do or say something and I'd have to rethink my logic. The book kept me on my toes and wide awake until 2am. First time to read a book by this author, but not my last.

1.0 out of 5 stars Drop Dead Dull!, April 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Drop Dead Gorgeous (Paperback)
Granted, I didn't have the killer figured out until it was revealed, (although I did have him at the top of my list) I thought the book was dull. I had to make myself finish it & not just skip to the last chapter to see whodunit. I thought the dialogue was stilted and unbelievable. I also thought it was lacking in transitions. There were huge gaps in the story that left me thinking, "How did we get here?" Definitely not a Graham book I'd recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book was NOT a winner., September 3, 1998

I enjoy Heather Graham's historicals for their rich detail, and memorable characters. Drop Dead Gorgeous had neither. The characters were as shallow as a 1 inch pool of water, and their dialogue lacked that spark that keeps one interested. While I didn't guess the killer until the end, and I though the sex was pretty good, I was constantly turned away from the story by the vacuous "heroes" and "heroines". Also, Ms. Grahams constant repetition of the phrase "DROP DEAD GORGEOUS" throughout the book was way over the top.Sorry Heather, I just wasn't feeling it.
