OK I love fitness books. I just had to write in as there aren't too many reviews in yet. I know I would like this as I liked Rachel Cosgrove's last book. This one is more user friendly for sure. The organization is better, and the graphics and text are more appealing. It has day by day plans, including menus and recipes. There isn't much mention of modifications for vegetarians, but I am subbing beans, tofu, etc. for the meat portions. There are a few errors here and there, like the workouts having the wrong name on the calendar, but it is pretty easy to figure them out. I think some people might be disappointed in the workouts. There is less of an emphasis on "heavy lifting" and more emphasis on mobility. I am fine with that personally. Also, the workouts are fairly short (the first one took me 35-40 min, including warm-up), and there are 4 per week. Be prepared for a lengthy (10 min) warm-up routine. The other thing I like is that there is no repeat of an exercise. When it is done, it's done. I haven't checked the whole book, but it looks like most of the exercises can be done at home with a foam roller, hand weights, exercise bands, a wall, and bench or chair. I hope to post an update eventually.

I started lifting weights over a year ago, after living a very sedentary life. I had initially tried Couch to 5K but discovered that I actually hate running. Someone suggested that I lift weights to lose weight and I started a different program, New Rules of Lifting for Women. (The author of Drop Two Sizes is the wife of the person who developed the New Rules/Women program.)

I completed the Drop Two Sizes program according to the calendar outlined in the book (3 strength workouts and 1 metabolic workout/week for 12 weeks). I had already been lifting and want(ed) to build more muscle, so I was able to start with 15-20 pound dumbbells. I loved everything about the workouts! They were intense and I ended up sore most days. I looked forward to every single one -- not something I've ever said about any other workout routine! Not that I'd ever had one; New Rules/Women was the first time I almost stuck with something, but I stopped it to jump over to Drop Two Sizes -- and stuck with that one all the way through.

I did not follow the menu. I used it as a guide and ate similar types of items, especially focused on eating at least one to two cups of vegetables with lunch and dinner, something I'd never done before. I love veggies now, and the greener the better!

The day before I started, I went shopping and tried on jeans that fit, then bought the pair that was labeled two sizes smaller. I took photos at every "jeans check" marked in the calendar. Thank goodness, because I couldn't tell the difference without seeing the photo evidence! I know that seems strange, but my mind still saw my "old" body no matter what. By the end of the 12 weeks, I fit into my new jeans. I was astounded. I was 2-3 sizes smaller, depending on the brand.

I LOVED Rachel Cosgrove's first book. After completing her workouts and loosely following her diet plan, I was in tip top shape for my wedding. I've been waiting for a follow up book and was eager to buy this one.

The Phase 3 workouts in this book are great (I thought 1 and 2 were pretty easy) but I miss the encouragement to ditch "pink dumbbells" and go heavy with the weights. And I loathe the title and cover of this book. I find myself constantly trying to hide it at the gym. "Drop Two Sizes" feels cliche! In summary--good workouts, great image illustrations, but you'll get better results from The Fit Female Body Breakthrough.

I love the layout of the book. I followed the program already with Rachel and lost more than 2 jean sizes. Now I love its in a book and the layout is so easy to follow and read!

Depending on what you are looking for in a workout this could be a very good program for you to follow. Personally, I have done Rachel's previous book The Female Body Breakthrough and before that the New Rules of Lifting for Women. Knowing Rachel's previous work I expected more strength training in this book but that was not the case and I feel like I am losing ground with this program.

If you are a beginner or out of shape this looks like a great book but I think I will "ditch" this book and try something different.

I've tried lots of diets and diet/exercise books. This one is the best. I've already dropped one size. The diet is great. I don't get hungry and the recipes are easy and good. I especially like how they manage to incorporate "cheats" like pizza into the diet. I highly recommend this book/diet.
