5.0 out of 5 stars To use with Kindle Fire January 16, 2012
Verified Purchase
Kindle Fire runs a modified Android Gingerbread. One of the ways the Kindle Fire is different from most Android devices is it does not have the Google Android Marketplace; instead apps must be obtained through Amazon's own app store. As of this writing, the DropBox app is not available in the Amazon App Store, but I was able to get it installed on my Kindle Fire anyway with the following steps:
'Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the Kindle Fire home screen to activate the Settings window
'Click More
'Scroll down to Device
'Scroll down to `Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources' and move the slider from `Off' to `On
'You'll be prompted to confirm you mean to do this; you agreee
'Switch to the Kindle web browser and go to [...], and click Download App. This will download the Dropbox .apk file
'When the download is finished you'll see a notification in the top left corner. Click it and scroll down to the notification that the download of the Dropbox .apk file is complete. Click the file.
'You will be prompted to install the application. Click the button
'Once installation is completed, start the Dropbox application and log in.
'Done!
Hope this helps someone. God bless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works on Kindle Fire, too December 29, 2011
While Dropbox is not currently marked as being Kindle Fire-compatible and therefore won't appear in the Appstore for Fire owners, it actually works just fine and can be downloaded directly from Dropbox.com.

When used in conjunction with ES File Explorer, you can easily move pictures and videos between your Fire and your computer without having to hunt for the right cable.

I recently purchased my first Android device (Samsung Galaxy 7.7 running Honey Comb 3.2) and asked my friends what essential applications they use all the time. Dropbox was one of them. Dropbox allows you to share files and images between different computers. Dropbox supports Windows, Linux, Mac, as well as mobile devices (Android, Amazon Fire, iPad).

Dropbox provides 2 GB of space for free, you can purchase bigger Dropboxes if you need more space. You can also increase your space if you refer people to use Dropbox. Dropbox is secure. It uses high level of security using public key encryption (same type of security used by banks) by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and AES-256 bit encryption. By default the files in Dropbox are private. But it also provides a way to share files with someone else by dropping your files in the public folder.

Dropbox is very simple to use. You just need to install it on the computers you want to share files, secure it with a good complex password, and it creates a folder on the computers where it was installed. As soon as you move something into that folder it becomes visible on all machines.

This app makes it easier to manage all your devices, and I now use to move things not only between my PC and my tablet, but my PC at home and my PC at work.

I recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, this app is THE BOMB and MUST HAVE! March 3, 2012
Tired of having take the SD card out of your phone to transfer files to your computer, and vice versa? Tired of the cable hookup from your phone to your laptop? Feel like putting a couple of gig worth of music on your phone but dread either the download process or the use of space it will need? Along comes Dropbox to save the day....

This app is simply INDISPENSIBLE as an up-in-the-cloud 2GB storage file that you can access from EVERY device you have... the phone, the tablet, the laptop, the desktop, any and all of them. Every device you have can have access to it, should you wish. Imagine having a folder on your laptop that holds 2GB worth of files (that doesn't even take up that space on the computer itself because of it being in the cloud), and then drag and drop anything into it... and then access it on ANOTHER device, without THAT device having to download any of it -- or even store it inside THAT device.

It's just a perfectly heavenly app! You can use it to drop your music files into, copy and paste music collections, all in one fell swoop on your laptop.... Then go to your phone and have ability to play them, just like any other file on your phone. Or, certain documents you're working on that you need the ability to access from your tablet or phone. Just drop them in a Dropbox folder, and they're accessible instantly!

Referring friends apparently gets you more space than the already generous 2MB, but I have yet to take advantage of that. But that sure is a neat way to increase the value of this app even further while helping friends and family learn about the benefits of this indispensible app.

It's one of those apps that is definitely a MUST HAVE. Truly, you'll wonder how you ever put up with downloading and file transferring on a daily basis between your devices once you experience THIS gem of an app!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most useful app ever! December 19, 2012
Verified Purchase
If I only had to have a few apps, Dropbox would be the first I'd keep. It flawlessly keeps my stuff accessible from any PC and all of my electronic gizmos (HTC Desire, Kindle Fire, and some nameless android tablet) and synchronizes them without any work on my part. I can upload and download without any problems - and many other useful apps have Dropbox as an option for uploading and/or downloading. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who needs to access documents, music, photos, etc. in multiple locales and on multiple devices.
