This is a good solid rock album, not a bad first effort for a new band, but Dropbox could benefit from an infusion of creativity/originality in their songwriting. I bought this album after hearing the track "End of Days" on satellite radio and then hearing Dropbox's song with Godsmack, "Touche", on Godsmack's "The Other Side" EP (which, by the way, is an EXCELLLENT musical effort - 6 stars). I was impressed with John Kosco's voice, and I have a lot of respect for executive producer Sully Erna, both as a musician and for his sense of what sounds good and what sells in the music industry, based on what he's done with Godsmack. (For those reviewers who deride Dropbox as an Alice In Chains clone band, remember that's exactly what critics said about Godsmack's first album [though I don't agree], yet 2 CD's & 1 EP later, Godsmack has further developed their own style & purveyed it into millions upon millions of CD sales].
Most reviews on Amazon either rave about or trash a CD, but my opinion of this one is just "pretty good". It's definitely a listenable CD, and the members of Dropbox certainly have musical talent; they just need to get more creative. They kind of sound like everybody & nobody all at the same time. If you're looking at the mixed reviews and wondering whether to buy this CD, my advice is to buy a good-condition used copy so you won't be spending so much money, and then sit back & see if Dropbox develops more originality on their next album.

Average Riff Rock,

The fact that Dropbox guitarist Lee Richards used to be in Godsmack and that 'Smack frontman Sully Erna plays drums on the record, might lead you to write this off as Godsmack Jr. The opening Sabbath-y heavy riffs of "Wishbone"(which reminds a lot of C.O.C.'s "Albatross") and "I Feel Fine" say otherwise. Too bad the band doesn't stay in that particular vein through the entire release though, instead straying into the oft tread Alice In Chains-grunge style realm(not surprisingly, Dave Jerden is listed as the producer). There are other strong points; singer John Kosco's Cornell-like smoothness on "Forgotten Songs" and the dark atmosphere of "Take Away The Sun" are both anthematic, without sounding contrived. The acoustic "Nobody Cares" shows this band's and many others' biggest problem; how to give a nod to your influences(AIC-ahem!), without sounding too much like them.

I follow the band as much as I can and i'm hearing about a new cd and side projects from John. looking forward to whatever that guy produces.

Sick voice, nice guitar, strong album,

This is one of my favorite CDs. I love the singers voice. It does remind my of Layne Staley form AIC and Eddie Vedder From PJ. The Guitarist is the old Godsmack guitarist and Sully does alot of the drumming on the disk. I thought that it could of been harder in some areas but overall the cd is hard with a crunchy low guitar. If you like Godsmack and Alice in Chains then this band is for you, but don't expect it to be as hard as Godsmack.

Good but doesn't stick out.,

To me Dropbox's debut album is great to listen to but doesn't stick out as a cd that you consiuosly put in to listen to. It's merely good background music. The rock/metal equivalant to elevator music. It's not bad, but it's not great.
2 songs stand out. Wishbone and Forgotten Song. Tracks 1 and 5. These are excellent songs that I love to listen to. the others despite how many times I've listened to the album, I can't even remember the names of. The only reason I bought this album was because it's best track (wishbone) was featured on the Atari Transformers game. That's it. If not for that I probably would have left this on the shelf and bought another ACDC or metallica album.

Classic and Powerful CD,

If you like your music served up thick & heavy this is for you. This music comes at you with heavy toned down guitars. Deep "feel it in your bones" grooves. Also great vocals and vocal harmonies. I would say if you mixed up "Alice in Chains", "Black Sabbath" and "Godsmack" this is what you would end up with. If you want to here a cd from 10 years ago that sounds similar. Check out Corrosion Of Conformity - Deliverance. In particular listen to the track "Albatross". Boy that tune "Wishbone" sounds alot like it doesn't it?? Some things never go out of style do they.

SmackBox,
This review is from: Dropbox (Audio CD)
I gotta admit,if I would have known that DropBox had more then just one connection to GodSmack, besides The lead guitarist being in both bands,I might not have this cd today. When you read the liner notes and find out that Erna Sully does alot of the drums, amongest other things,it's almost like you have some stupid rap cd,ya know,a rap cd by everyone else but the person that made the cd.Anyway, money well spent. They might sound like AIC but geuss what...they are totaly differant people.Who happen to like the greatest band of all time, besides AIC used the shrill sounds of the guitar to make there listeners crazy, not the 4-string thing that DropBox and GodSmack use.The Song I Feel Fine takes you to both of those worlds.Run reminds me of Would!?.It's almost as if Lane Staly if speaking through these guys from Hades. The Spiritul Sounds Of Rock Rule!So yeah, get this CD
