Product Description

Smart water delivery
Advanced Data Tools
Droplet is a reinvention of the way plants get water.

Droplet is easily configured via smartphone, tablet or website all using Wi-Fi. No more running to the garage to change sprinkler settings because it rained yesterday, or checking a timer on your outdoor faucet.

Cloud power on the end of a garden hose.

Droplet is the world's first smart sprinkler system that combines the latest technology in robotics, cloud computing, and connected services to transform the way sprinkler systems function. Droplet keeps your plants healthy without wasting water by drawing upon a vast system of data to intelligently determine how best to care for your plants. By being smart, precise and frugal, Droplet can lower your sprinkler water consumption by up to 90 percent — that's more than $200 a year for most Americans.

Easy setup

Installation is simple and quick — zero to working in five minutes. Once the sprinkler is hooked up to your garden hose and plugged in, all the user needs to do is find the nearest smart device to input the types of plants in the yard and where they are located so that Droplet knows where to distribute the water. Droplet is easily configured via smartphone, tablet, or laptop on the Droplet Web site, giving users complete control of their system wherever they are.

Precise water delivery

Droplet's smart sprinkler system leverages over 10,000 weather stations' real-time data, millions of square miles of U.S. soil samples and comprehensive biological plant information to make decisions on when, where, and how much water to deliver. The state-of-the-art robotic sprinkler understands each plant and disperses the proper amount of water to ensure even and efficient watering. Droplet waters lawns without soaking the fence, driveway, and patio furniture.

Data at your fingertips

The first step to making smart decisions is obtaining data. Droplet shows advanced analytics on how much water goes into a lawn, garden, or flower-bed so homeowners can better manage water usage. Droplet can even work with your local municipality to honor watering restrictions in effect, helping avoid expensive fines.

One solution for the whole yard

Grass, Trees, Potted plants and Gardens — it doesn't matter. Droplet has specialized watering routines which target each plant type in a different manner. Lawns are watered row by row, the way a farmer plows fields. Trees are watered at the drip line instead of the trunk, because the drip line is where the water is more readily absorbed. With a range of about 30 feet in any direction, one Droplet can replace and entire set of sprinkler zones in an average home. Now it's possible to add potted plants to automated watering schedules, without the labor and cost of connecting drip irrigation lines to each individual pot.

Features at a glance
  • Supply water with your garden hose
  • 30 foot range in almost any direction; 2700 square feet of coverage per droplet depending on water pressure
  • Connect via WiFi and a smartphone to configure, update & monitor
  • Plugs into your house via included power cable, uses only about $0.25 a month in electricity to operate

I should probably explain that...
The aiming strategy of the device is very similar to a three dimensional version of Angry Birds (or Scorched Earth for us Gen-Xer's), where you need to get the correct angle and declination in order to create the perfect arc to hit your target (plants in this case); and in that, the Droplet works fairly well. The controls can be touchy, and it takes a surprisingly long time to rotate the head regardless of the angle change, but those are more annoyances than real problems. The real problem comes in what separates Angry Birds from the Droplet, and that is the ability to control Power; or in this case, Water Pressure.
There are only 2 inputs available for the Droplet, angle and declination, not pressure.

After watching the demo video put out by Droplet and comparing it to my own experience, it's clear that my water pressure was much too high and that any fine control of the water stream would be impossible without a regulator. So, I bought a 40-50psi garden hose regulator (Valterra A01-1122VP Lead-Free High Flow Water Regulator) and borrowed a pressure gauge from a friend. Turns out my garden hose was putting out a whopping 94psi, which is very high, but the regulator got it down to a much more manageable 51psi; so I tried the setup again and found that 51psi is still too much for any real fine control. That's when I appealed to Droplet for help, and got a very quick response saying that people have been fixing the problem using on/off valves turned half way (

The product has great promise and I wanted to like it. But this is not a consumer product yet, it is a beta product. The plant aiming and setup is PAINFULLY slow and difficult and I finally gave up after 45 mins. I have many plants in my yard and it would have taken hours aim and set the droplet up. While you can control the "aim" of the droplet, you cannot control the pressure or power of the water. Therefore you are left with turning the water pressure down if you want to "shot plants" close by the droplet or only being able to water plants far away if the pressure is high. The droplet is very poor at water plants at close range and long range. The interface to set up and aim is also not prime time yet. Then need an iPhone or android app, NOT the web browser interface. They also need to able to set the droplet up in different positions in your yard. There seems to be no way of doing this, so you set it up in on area and that is it. Also if it gets moved or you forget the exact location of where the droplet was when you set it up there is not way of redoing your plants. Thus you are left setting up the whole set of plants again. Very annoying. Great promise, total beta. If they create a good app and controls and a slick interface to program the droplet it could have potential. Right now its a $300 brink.
