Here we go again, SUBNOIZE SOULJAZ,
By DrewDogg (Council Bluffs, IA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Droppin' Bombs (Audio CD)
The Subnoize Souljaz album "Droppin Bombs" is stellar. If you are unfamiliar with the Souljaz, let me explain. They are an AMAZING group of very TALENTED rappers from the Suburban Noize record lable. Artists include Daddy X, D-Loc and Johnny Richter from the infamous Kottonmouth Kings. Saint Dog, Dirtball, Big B, Judge D and Chucky Styles are all solo rap artists on the lable. Jared, the lead singer of (hed) p.e makes an appearance and Brother J of the X-clan drops a few verses among others. The theme of the album is very apparent. It is very political, and has a lot of meaning to it, and without getting lost in all the politics and world peace, manange to put out a straight banger, real mother effing hip hop! The album starts with Big B and Dirtball on "Here we go Again". What a way to display some of the under-rated talent on the lable and really set the album off right. While Daddy X is on nearly every track, he doesn't step in and take the show away from anyone. All the artists are on the top of their game on this album, and Daddy X let them shine. Also D-Loc and JR didn't drop a lot of verses either. While I like the KMK mob, it is nice to see the other artits work together and show their potential. Some other choice cuts are "Uncle Sam", probably the deepest song on the album, but has a bangin beat as well. Saint, X, and Judge really tear it up. "Still Smokin" is sweet, the orignial KMK memebers and Saint reunite for a true Subnoize classic. "Get em up" features pretty much the entire crew, along with Jared of (hed). Great beat and great rhymes by everybody, it just makes me sad (being a HUGE fan of (hed) p.e) that Jared didn't get more time on the mic, he is an unbelievable rapper and should put out a solo rap joint, I better not hold my breath on that one. D-Locs solo is kinda wack, and is the only thing that keeps this ablum away from true perfection. But one track out of a 20 song album isn't going to ruin it for me. "Flyin High" is a lot of fun, basically talking about the crew going to Amsterdam, and in my oppinion Chucky steals the song. "Pull the Pin" is another emotional song, and shows that these guys can talk about other stuff than weed. D-Ball, Saint and Chucky really lay down some sick stuff on this one. The group One Session gets a chance to shine on "We are" and boy do they succeed. Awesome, hard beat and ferotious rhymes make this one of the best on the album, though it doesn't feature any of the "more popular" emcees. The album closes with a song from punk rockers Last Laugh and Richter. Good finish, though a bit odd to fit in with the rest of the songs. Overall, the best 2006 release from Subnoize. Like I said, the only problems I have with it are the D-Loc track, lack of Jared, and maybe a song from Potluck would have been good too. I may just be saying its the best because is really shows all the talent they have to offer, or maybe because it really is an underground classic. Check it out if you like rap music, this blows all the mainstream rap out of the water. Hot beats, hot rhymes, please buy it.
