Book Description

February 26, 2002
“You know, I’m not the smartest person that you ever met. I’m not Einstein. But I’m the
person that always thinks he gonna do something, and I think that’s the difference.”
—Master P

Here it is: real-life street cred from today’s hottest rap and hip-hop stars. It’s advice and insight that’s straight up, from the folks who’ve been there.

“Love is everything in my book. You can have as much money as you want, but without love how happy can you be? Because if you try to buy it, it’s not real.” —Eve

“I’m not perfect. I’ve made a lot of mistakes and there’s a lot of things that I don’t know, but I’m not afraid to learn, and not afraid to say that I don’t know something.” —Foxy Brown

“I would take book smarts over street smarts if I had to make a choice. Book smarts could get you to be the CEO of a company, be like Donald Trump . . . I don’t know if street smarts could get you anywhere but jail. You can’t retire on street smarts but you can on book smarts.” —Ice T

“Don’t be no follower, man, ’cause you’ll go down fast. You gotta do things for yourself. Think for yourself. Know right from wrong. ’Cause that’s what I had to do. I had to learn right from wrong.” —Raekwon of Wu Tang Clan

5.0 out of 5 stars Hip Hop Wisdom - a great book!!, March 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Droppin' Science: Straight-Up Talk from Hip Hop's Greatest Voices (Paperback)
For anyone who thinks Hip Hop is synonymous with Rap, this book will set you straight. For those who think Hip Hop (especially Rap) is always negative and too infused with attitude, this book will give you hope. For the multitude who are fully immersed in this genre of music, this book is nothing short of inspirational. These people have a lot to say and this book shows that what they have to say can help all of us live better lives. Hooray for Ms McIver for putting this wonderful compendium of hip hop wisdom out there! It's also a fun read!

I'm a fan of hip hop - the culture and the artists, and I'm so glad droppin' science is out there. It's inspiring to read how profound these artists are. The forward by KRS-One sets the tone beautifully. Add this one to your collection of affirmations and inspirations.

5.0 out of 5 stars The real deal from hip-hop royalty!, May 2, 2002
By
Stephanie DuBois (Los Angeles, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Droppin' Science: Straight-Up Talk from Hip Hop's Greatest Voices (Paperback)
Droppin' Science is the best compilation of zen wisdom from the 'hood I've ever read. For anyone who thinks all hip-hop artists are merely about bling-bling or bang-bang, think again. McIver seems to have amassed all the top names in rap and hip-hop giving advice on everything, life, love, respect, success... you name it! What this book really makes clear, is that it doesn't matter who you are or where you came from, we all basically want the same things in life -- a chance to pursue the American dream, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I'm definitely buying copies of this book for all my young nephews and nieces to read. I'm betting it will open their eyes and inspire them to even greater heights!
