Drops of Emptiness was nominated for Best Traditional World Music recording in 1998 at the AFIM Indie Awards. Thich Nhat Hanh is a very famous Buddhist monk that helped produce this album with his meditational Zen music and poetry.

About the Author
Thich Nhat Hanh is an expatriate Vietnamese Buddhist monk, as well as a teacher, author, poet, and peace activist. Martin Luther King, Jr. nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967 for his efforts to reconcile North and South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Hanh was part of a movement called "engaged Buddhism", which combines traditional practices with nonviolent civil disobedience, and he was exiled by both the Communist and non-Communist governments. He is a respected writer and scholar, and founded a retreat in France called Plum Village. Hanh has written several books, including The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching: An Introduction to Buddhism, Peace Is Every Step, and Living Buddha, Living Christ.

what beautiful words,

This cd is not for everyone in the Western world. The melodies sung here sound strange to people who are unused to Eastern modalities, and the singers' voices are older and not always perfectly inflected. Having said that, the words of the poetry are stunningly beautiful, and offer many hours of reflection, given the chance. I have this cd, and I'm buying a copy for a friend of mine who leads a centering prayer group. I heartily recommend it.

This is absolutely wonderful. I love that it's the practitioners of Plum Village themselves. Thich Nhat Hanh has a beautiful voice - the singers may not have perfect singing inflection, as the other reviewer mentioned, but this, to me makes it more genuine. These are monastics reverently expressing their Buddhist practice. This adds much beauty to the cd. I also highly recommend it!

Wonderful BUT Not What I Expected,

This is a lovely CD of chants and poetry by members of the Plum Village monastery. I like it but I had not realized when ordering it that it is in Vietnamese. I had wanted to learn new chants--not going to do that with this CD. Instead, it is good for listening to and bringing a quiet and contemplative mood. The English words are contained in the written material.
