5.0 out of 5 stars After 100 years, a better way to crack nuts!, December 24, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Drosselmeyer Nutcracker
Finally, someone has designed a nutcracker that overcomes the major issues with the traditional nutcracker. Namely:

- The nut doesn't explode when you crack it "like the Death Star shot by Luke Skywalker", as my eldest son says! ;-)
- It is very difficult (impossible?) to pinch your finger in the unit.
- This nutcracker automatically holds the nut in the proper position for cracking. No more difficulty trying to hold the nut just right while squeezing it with a smooth rounded metal bar.
- This nutcracker does not allow you to completely crush the nut into oblivion after the shell is cracked. The motion of the mechanism stops once the shell is cracked. Perhaps it should be called a shellcracker!
- This nutcracker applies more leverage to the cracking task than nearly any other nutcracker made. I calculate leverage of about 5-to-1 for a large walnut and about 15-to-1 for a small nut like an almond.

In short, this is a very well-engineered piece of shell cracking equipment! Hopefully it will last a lifetime and hence justify the high price we paid for it. It seems to be well-made, so we think it will. Time will tell.

5.0 out of 5 stars My New Preferred Way to Crack Nuts, December 5, 2008
This review is from: Drosselmeyer Nutcracker
I've had this product for over a year and it sees a lot of action cracking nuts. This is far better than the traditional, open jaw nut crackers because it keeps all the shells neatly inside the unit. It fits perfectly in my hand and the leverage it provides only requires an easy squeeze. I just toss a nut in, squeeze, and pour the results in my hand, removing the meat and dumping the shells in a separate bowl. Well made, it has the potential to be passed on for generations. I am sure it would be an appreciated gift.
