I really enjoyed this true story from the view point of a person who fights mental depression successfully. He carries many family burdens with him as he deals with every block one should never expect when trying to overcome chronic depression, dealing with a dysfunctional mate, and the hurt and dysfunction that comes to a parent of male treatment of teen age boys.
This is a very interesting book from the standpoint from which it is written. Mr. Friend tries as a victim of our terrible mental health system to use his Christian values to fight for his sons safety after their abduction then discovering, they have been committed and locked away by their own mother.
The way he describes his empty and helplessness in this intreging and gripping story. It is a true picture of how viciously empty our care for the mentally ill is wanting in our state of California, one which used to be the model initiated by other states in the US. Well done.

This book is well written and touching. Dan Friend observed his life as he was living it. In his book he shares the insights he gained from his many positive and negative experiences. I gained an appreciation for Dan Friend's strength to live and learn from the consequences of his decisions. As a philosophical account of one man's life this is also an excellent description of the times in which he lived.
