An Awesome Resource!!!, January 7, 2010
This review is from: Drug Facts and Comparisons 2009 (Drug Facts & Comparisons) (Hardcover)
This book is better than any PDR!!!
I am in a Pre-med program and taking a pharmacology course this year; and have purchased many medical books to help me with my career. This book stands out as the first one that deserves immediate review(because it is that good). As soon as it arrived it directly helped me with the first assignment and has saved me significant time and research. Anyone who who wants a student friendly pharmacology book BUY this one and you will not be disappointed.
With that said those who are thinking about buying the book should be warned that it is quite technical and has many physiological details. If you do not have any background in medicine or medical anatomical terminology than this book may not be for you (I would recommend the pill book for you though). With all of its technicalities I would still suggest it to anyone who desires a comprehensive guide for drugs and how they work in the body.
It provides a comprehensive guide for thousands of drugs and describes the Indications, administration and dosages, the Actions (helped me with the pharmacology-which groups and classes the drugs; and their pharmacokinetics-how drugs are absorbed, distributed, and eliminated from the body), contraindications of a drugs use, warnings and precautions about the drug, drug interactions (with other drugs), adverse reactions while taking the drug, overdosage amounts, and useful patient information for each and every drug listed.
This book is highly under-publicized and needs to be recognized as a gold standard. If you would like a book to compare it to look up the Merck Manual. What the Merck manual can do for people studying pathophysiology this book can do for people studying pharmacology. If you want an outstanding resource buy this book.

Great price for a year old edition., April 25, 2010
This review is from: Drug Facts and Comparisons 2009 (Drug Facts & Comparisons) (Hardcover)
I bought this edition new but 1 year out of date. I keep an i-touch on me and keep it updated monthly or so. This is a nice addition to my reference set when I need to know deeper details.

I have used this book for years, and as a practicing physician I find facts and comparison's to be the most useful of the pharmacology texts that I use. I am provided with an on line pharmacology resource free with the multispeciality group I belong to, but I buy this book simply because it comes in very handy with my day to day prescribing.
