This is a wonderful book and is a wealth of information for a person trying to understand the pros and cons of medication. It breaks down drugs by different indexes and charts. To list a few of its features and information given:
1) Mental & emotional side effects 2) Drug profiles 3) Street drug slang 4) A color coded chart for more than 200 drugs 5) Overdose outcomes 6) Psychotropic drugs by brand & general name 7) How each drug works on mental and physical conditions 8) Provides the pharmacological classes of drugs Working in a substance abuse and mental health field, I find this a wonderful tool. This book is written in easy terms and is broken down into sections that are reader friendly. The information is candid and provides both the positives and negatives of medication. The one thing intimating about this book is the size, it is over 800 pages. The book is also pricey, but the information, if the person can utilize it, is well worth the cost.

It was more patient information. Good photo's of a few drugs in the back, not what I expected and frankly not useful for clinical application. It can be quite useful if you want to do patient education. Looks good though.

As a school social worker, I am called upon for consultation with teachers, doctors, etc. that are working with my kids. It's important for me to understand the benefits/side effects of the medications that they may be taking. I have found this book to be very helpful.

I thought when I received the book that it would be overly technical and make things harder for a course I'm taking, but it's pretty clear. It has a really good index in the back that covers all you would be looking for in a guide for mental health meds. So far it's been worth the money.
