4.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding field reference
I have used this book in the field and found it to be an asset. This is a must have for any paramedic. The Home Medication section in the back is the most important for me. It is hard to keep up with the new drug out now, never mind remembering what classification they are. I found this very thorough as far as medic field medications and the explanations, interactions,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good detailed reference, June 22, 2003
This review is from: Drug Guide for Paramedics (Spiral-bound)
This book was a requirement for my paramedic class (Washington State). It had every drug I needed to look up and gives detailed information about each drug, it's use, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, side effects, contraindications, side effects, and pre-hospital considerations.

However, there are some differences of opinion on some of the drug dosages and uses with my teachers, fellow students, paramedics and other drug guide manuals.

Over all I'd say a good reference, but not the end-all be-all. A useful tool in conjunction with others.

Also, it's pages are not weather resistant like other EMS pocket guides. I rarely use it in the field. However, it's been useful for other study purposes. I'd recommend buying a used copy.

It is hard to keep up with the new drug out now, never mind remembering what classification they are. I found this very thorough as far as medic field medications and the explanations, interactions, contraindications, etc.. for each. A must for all students.

As said in another review, waterproof pages would make this book a 5+.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource, May 2, 2005
This review is from: Drug Guide for Paramedics (Spiral-bound)
This was on the recommended list of books that we get for my Paramedic class and I decided to get it. It is a great resource for gaining information. I have found it not only usful in the classroom but in the field as well, even when I am working as a Basic EMT at the EMS agency I work for and when I am doing my student time, not only with EMS but in the hospital as well.

I highly recommend this book to any EMS student or provider and even any angency as a book to have handy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great resource, needs an update., May 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This drug guide is a great resource for both hospital and pre-hospital medics. The spiral bound makes flipping through pages easy and there is what I call a 'flap' for marking pages too. The references in the covers I haven't used yet, but they make for a good use of space. It's just a bit bulky in size to fit in the cargo pocket of (my) trauma pants, but it does and that's where you'll find it (the size isn't a deal breaker).

My only qualm is that I wish this would have been in 3rd Edition by now... Some commonly used drugs aren't found within. For example, Zofran (ondansetron) isn't in this drug guide - not that a practicing medic would need a drug guide for Zofran but you get what I mean.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is what it is, November 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Provides excellent information on the most commonly carried/used drugs in EMS. Includes a Pediatric dosage reference chart on the back cover. A list of other common medications with mechanism of action is listed in the back as well. Mine was missing a page (diazepam). Haven't used it as a field guide so much as a reference guide at home or the station. As stated by others, dosages are debatable here but not necessarily incorrect. The dosages in any given department's protocols are likely equally debatable. Good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great med guide, May 30, 2009
This little med guide is another great tool for the medic. It has all the information one needs on emergency medications. It may be alittle indepth for use on the truck, but for fast, easy reference it is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indespensible for the Paramedic Student, September 9, 2008
I'm in my fifth week of a year-long Paramedic Academy. This book wasn't on any of our lists, either required or recommended. None of our required reading (INCLUDING THE DRUG CARDS IN THE BRADY PARAMEDIC WORKBOOKS) had any helpful, succinct, well organized information on the drugs we needed to know. We were all having trouble with pharmacology, until someone stumbled on this book. We have all found or bought copies at this point, and they are exactly what we needed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
