From School Library Journal
Grade 7 Up–This comprehensive book updates the 2002 edition with more current articles, statistics, and contact information for various organizations. Like the previous volume, it addresses substances such as marijuana, inhalants, hallucinogens, opiates, prescription and over-the-counter drugs, sports and herbal supplements, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and chemicals. Solid, thoughtful advice is given about how to handle peer pressure, drug-related health concerns, and treatment strategies. Articles are fully cited and are gathered from government agencies such as National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and a variety of other organizations. Richard Isralowitz's Drug Use (ABC-CLIO, 2004) covers similar ground but is for a high school audience and has more information on U.S. drug policy.–Debbie Stewart Hoskins, Grand Rapids Public Library, MI
