Editorial Reviews

John Reuben on his 6th Gotee release: 'This album is full of many questions that I have been struggling with over the past few years,' explains Reuben. 'It felt often like there was a tension. Artistry, career and faith seemed to be standing at odds wlth one another. Sex, Drugs and Self-Control is really about basic questions. Questions like 'Am I talking about honesty more than I'm actually being honest?' Everything seems to come back to these questions and trying to understand how art and faith can work together.' The son of a Christian Death Metal Record Label owner, John Reuben was raised in a trailer park on a farm that doubled as a church/outreach program for troubled youth. By the age of 18 he had started his own Indie Label, and released several ep's recorded by himself and other artists. Just before his 19th birthday, John packed up his recording gear and moved to Hollywood where he survived by doing extra work for movies and television.

I am a fan of John Reuben's newer stuff and this is by far his best album.

I'm fairly new to John Reuben, and I feel this album is brilliant. Sure it's more electro than previous albums...however if an artist does not grow musically he becomes stagnant.
My favorite song out of all is 'So Sexy for All the Right Reasons'.
John does an amazing job on this song and I feel it showcases his growth as an artist.
I recently met him and I thoroughly enjoyed when he came on stage full dress in the tin foil!!!!!!!!!! (pure artistic genius in my humble opinion.)
cannot wait for more from him!!!!!!!!!!!!

His album "Word Of Mouth" in my opinion was his best album, with every single one of the 10 songs a brilliant masterpiece. I can say the same thing for this album, although there are more than 10 track on this one. Just like his previous album, he continues to combine alternative elements of hip hop, real instruments and bass guitar, and melodic and hard hitting choruses that you don't see too often in rap albums anymore. This album feature alot more singing that usual, and i love it. His rap flow continues to impress me and just like usual, you won't find too many flukes on here. In my opinion, there are no flukes. My favorite tracks on this album include Confident, No Be Nah, Everett, Burn It Down, Town Folk, and Wooden Whistle Man. Don't pass this album up if you want something unique and intelligent.
