I am a fan of John Reuben's newer stuff and this is by far his best album.

The man is a talented poet. I have enjoyed everything he comes out with. None is like the other. Original!

I'm fairly new to John Reuben, and I feel this album is brilliant. Sure it's more electro than previous albums...however if an artist does not grow musically he becomes stagnant. My favorite song out of all is 'So Sexy for All the Right Reasons'. John does an amazing job on this song and I feel it showcases his growth as an artist. I recently met him and I thoroughly enjoyed when he came on stage full dress in the tin foil!!!!!!!!!! (pure artistic genius in my humble opinion.) cannot wait for more from him!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bizarre... That pretty well sums up Reuben's latest effort in a word. Since John's first album was titled "Are We There Yet?" this one should have been titled "Where Are We Going?". Before going any further, you should know I am definitely a JR fan - own all his albums and have been to his concerts, even driven to different cities to see him and bought the T-shirt... but he has gone off the rails on this album. He has the tin foil shirt and glasses, now he just needs a tin foil hat to finish the ensemble. For most of the album I felt like I was listening to a Beck album... gone are the layered hip-hop beats and grooves - substituted with electronica/trance/whimsical beats. John's lyrics have always been introspective, but I just can't figure out where he's going anymore. The lyrics, for the most part, ramble all over the place and are disjointed (if there was any mention of Christ in his lyrics I completely missed them); the vocals are lazy and just kind of stumble through the song. With the couple exceptions of "Radio Makes You Lonely" and to a lesser extent "Wooden Whistle Man" I didn't find anything that would make me listen to this album again. |
