5.0 out of 5 stars Deck and Book Set, November 28, 2006
This review is from: Druid Animal Oracle Deck (Cards)
"Somehow animals act as ideal symbols or images of our deepest fears and urges, or of those parts of our psyche which have been denied or repressed or simply neglected. By welcoming and loving the animals which enter our awareness through the Oracle, in dreams and meditations and reverie, we enrich our inner world and discover a way of personal growth that is completely in tune with the natural world." --the authors

The Druid Animal Oracle, created by Philip and Stephanie Carr-Gomm and illustrated by Bill Worthington, draws its wisdom from the ancient wellspring of Celtic tradition. The Druids, much like the Native Americans, revered animals as sacred guides and guardians. Featuring animals from both the Otherworld and this one, The Druid Animal Oracle provides healing power and intuitive knowledge from 33 sacred animals. This oracle does not encourage fatalism and prediction; rather, the powerful messages correct imbalances, provide advice on inner dynamics, and empower the querent to make--and create--more positive outcomes.

In addition to 33 colorful cards, The Druid Animal Oracle comes with 3 blank cards for personal creation, a 176-page illustrated hard cover book, and a gorgeous reading cloth measuring approximately 20" X 23". The navy blue cloth can be used for spreads, and features exquisite silver embossing which includes likenesses of the four elemental dragons in the Oracle.

The Guidebook that accompanies this deck provides both upright and reversed interpretations for each of the sacred animal cards, as well as the traditional lore of each--including the Gaelic name and pronunciation of the particular animal. Seven unique spreads are given in The Druid Animal Oracle, ranging from 1-9 cards.

When I test out Oracle or Tarot decks, I like to do so when there is really a difficult situation at hand. It's pretty easy to get a "fluff" reading when all is well, but if an Oracle can provide insight and healing during critical times, then it passes muster in my book.

I happened to test The Druid Animal Oracle during one of the most difficult times of my life. A month or so ago, I had excruciating back pain that prohibited me from walking or sitting. It got so bad, my husband had to call an ambulance for me. Three shots of Demerol, a muscle relaxant, and other anti-inflammatories provided me no relief. My husband had to take a week off work to take care of me, and it took several weeks before I was pain-free. At its worst moments, the pain was worse than childbirth.

Because the back of the box said that this Oracle could "bring healing and help you draw strength from its intuitive knowledge", I thought I'd see what wisdom it could offer me during this trying time.

I did the Spread of the Elements, which is a 5 card Spread featured in the book. This particular spread addresses the West/Emotional, East/Intellectual, North/Intuitive, and South/Sensual parts of the Self. I asked for Guidance about the source of the injury, as well as healing advice.

I received some amazingly profound wisdom that was spot-on accurate. Rather than being a superficial reading, there was deep wisdom offered that addressed both root and remedy in various areas of my life. A part of this wisdom, I feel, lies with the great care and enthusiasm with which the authors convey the messages of these sacred animals.

This is not a deck to use "for fun", in my opinion. You'll be given corrective insight when inquiring The Druid Animal Oracle--and you may not like what it says. But it will be accurate, I believe, and it will be empowering should you choose to apply its wisdom.

I purchased this deck more than a few years ago. All I can say is that I love them. The book that comes with this set is chocked full of celtic stories and history. Each card is beautiful and large. It comes with a cloth you can wrap the cards in when not in use and you can do spreads on the cloth as well. Remember, this is an oracle deck and not a tarot deck so it may take a little getting used to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this deck, but have one question..., November 10, 2008
This review is from: Druid Animal Oracle Deck (Cards)
I love the Druid Animal Oracle. It is very beautifully illustrated, and the cards have profound meanings. It is one of my favorate Oracle decks (and the Druidcraft Tarot happens to be my favorate Tarot deck, which is done by the same authors and illustrator (they have beautiful work).

I have one question though: in the guide book (that comes with the deck itself-not the box set)in the introduction section, page 6, (second paragraph)it says "...Each image incorporates the same use of a pentagram, circle and square. The border of the animal cards conveys a message in Ogham, the tree language of the Druids."
Now I am familiar with the Pentagram (as I am Wiccan) and I am familiar with the Ogham alphabet, but I do not see the pentagram, circle, and square in each card, and I do not see any Ogham lettering in the border (but I do see ancient symbols and pictures incorporated in the cards..)
Am I missing something? Is the pentagram, circle and square somehow hidden? And is the "Ogham" the book refers to the Ogham alphabet, or is there a different meaning? Or is there a different edition of the deck itself?
I know this may seem like a dumb question, but I would appreciate any input..
Thanx IA, Alorah

5.0 out of 5 stars Animals our friends, July 1, 2010

Animals are our friends. This kit of cards is not a divination one. Of course these could be used for divination, and actually there are explanations for each card. But substantially these cards are for healing, healing for conscienceness and soul and spirit. Watching the cards you can exchange dialogs with the animals. The animals on the cards are all alive. Especially the eyes of the animals are full of living energy. And there are four vertual animals among the cards, which are earth dragon, fire dragon, air dragon and water dragon. These dragons seem to be actual ones. Also among the animals I like "hind" best. These animals are our friends, I'm sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Animal wisdom, October 10, 2009
This review is from: Druid Animal Oracle Deck (Cards)
Animals are good for people. As a nurse of more than 3 1/2 decades, I assert that animals are better for us than doctors. We are healthier when we associate with them and this has been proven by many studies. This deck of cards with its wonderful illustrations and lyrical descriptions in the accompanying book helps to focus the energy and wisdom of our fellow species. We would do well to listen to and honor them, and do all we can to learn from them. I have experienced some startling insights when working with the Druid Animal Oracle Deck. They are a simple but profound assist when we are seeking answers to life's inevitable questions. With continued practice and study, the insights become more personal and helpful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful cards, March 27, 2009
This review is from: Druid Animal Oracle Deck (Cards)
I just received these much awaited oracle cards. I think they are wonderful and right on target. The illustrations are beautiful. My problem with them is that the guide book is not organized in alphabetical order or numbered so it is hard to find the animals in the guide book. also I found the directions on how to choose a card very confusing. They talked about a spread but I couldn't find any directions for this. I ended up using a spread and ideas from other oracle cards that I have. One reviewer said they did an Element spread....did you just pull out all the element cards? Again I didn't see any directions for these.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blank cards?, November 11, 2009
This review is from: Druid Animal Oracle Deck (Cards)
Im an oracle fan, but blank cards? come on. How can someone unskilled can compare the artwork to a personal drawing?
It would never look the same and it would make the readings less objective.
